littelfuse inc (LFUS) Key Developments

Littelfuse, Inc Announces AF0500 Arc-Flash Relay, Which Delivers Arc-Flash Protection in Flexible Design with Unlimited Scalability

Littelfuse Inc. announced the AF0500 Arc-Flash Relay, which delivers arc-flash protection in a flexible design with unlimited scalability. The AF0500 Arc-Flash Relay’s simple, plug-and-play installation design is ideal for retrofits in electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, substations, motor control centers, load banks and many other applications. It supports four light sensors that allow the relay to sense an arcing fault, respond in less than a millisecond, and send a trip signal to an upstream breaker to interrupt the fault. The reduced time to trip helps customers lower their incident energy making their systems safer. The AF0500 Arc-Flash Relay's simple, plug-and-play installation design is ideal for retrofits in electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, substations, motor control centers, load banks and many other applications. Like its predecessor, the Littelfuse PGR-8800 Arc-Flash Relay, the new AF0500 Arc-Flash Relay does not require PC configuration, which simplifies installation ensuring correct relay set up every single time. Unlike competing products, the unique sensors used with the AF0500 are equipped with a visual indicator called Heartbeat™ to monitor the health of the sensor. Heartbeat™ indication allows workers to verify immediately that the sensors are properly operating and offering protection without inspecting the relay, which is often located in another compartment. In addition to lowering costs of installation and maintenance, the AF0500 Arc-Flash Relay reduces the total project cost by allowing for a flexible mix of point sensors and fiber optic sensors using the same inputs. One AF0500 relay can also be set up to trip different zones, eliminating the need to buy separate relays for each zone. The relay provides tie breaker trip and upstream breaker trip, which is useful protection in case the local breaker fails to trip. The AF0500 relay expands the Littelfuse arc-flash relay line to offer arc-flash protection for a wider range of applications. The relay includes an Ethernet interface and supports Modbus TCP communication. A USB port is used to access event logs and to configure complex systems with multiple power sources. The AF0500 efficiently protects small systems and allows the flexibility to interconnect an unlimited number of units to protect large systems.

Littelfuse, Inc. Introduces SLVU2.8-8 Series 2.8V, 30A TVS Diode Array

Littelfuse Inc. introduced the SLVU2.8-8 Series 2.8V, 30A TVS Diode Array (SPA® Diodes), designed to protect low voltage CMOS devices from damage caused by ESD and lightning-induced transients. When compared to similar market solutions, SLVU2.8-8 Series provides circuit designers with 25% higher power handling capability, which offers more overhead to electrical threats. It also provides 57% lower capacitance than other solutions, which helps preserve signal integrity and minimize data loss. Typical applications for the SLVU2.8-8 Series include protection of 10/100/1,000 Ethernet equipment; WAN/LAN equipment; switching systems; desktops, servers, and notebooks; analog inputs and base stations. All SLVU2.8-8 Series TVS Diode Arrays offer these key benefits: With 25% more power handling capability than similar market solutions, they provide more overhead to electrical threats. With capacitance of just 2.6pF per line, which is 57% lower than other solutions, they help preserve signal integrity and minimize data loss while offering a more robust device against electrical threats. Enhanced ESD capability (±30kV contact, ±30kV air) far exceeds the high level of the IEC 61000-4-2 standard (±8kV), providing maximum reliability for equipment during installation and servicing. Low dynamic resistance (RDYN) of 0.3O provides the optimal clamping voltage for sensitive chipsets, protecting them from catastrophic failure and maximizing system up time and reliability.

Littelfuse, Inc. Illuminates Innovative Circuit Protection Solutions for LED Lighting Systems at the 2015 Strategies in Light Show

Littelfuse Inc. will showcase cutting-edge circuit protection technology designed for the full LED lighting system from the power input all the way to the LEDs themselves, at the Strategies in Light trade show. Littelfuse representatives will be available to discuss new technologies, trends, and components in Booth 630 at the show, held at The Sands Expo & Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, from February 24 to 26, 2015. Exhibits will include a non-functional streetlight disassembled to show booth visitors where and how the company's LSP05 and LSP10 Surge Protection Device (SPD) Modules can be installed in them. A number of driver components will also be on display, including AC fuses, varistors, TVS diodes, DC fuses, PTCs, and PLED protectors. In addition to a diverse portfolio of circuit protection solutions that address a variety of LED applications from indoor and outdoor lighting to devices for LED bulb design, Littelfuse will highlight two unique innovations at the Strategies in Light show: The LSP05 and LSP10 Modules are designed specifically to provide transient overvoltage protection for outdoor and commercial LED lighting fixtures. Constructed with Littelfuse thermally protected metal oxide varistors (TMOVs), the LSP05 (parallel) and LSP10 (series or parallel) Surge Protection Device (SPD) Modules provide robust surge current handling capability. A built-in thermal disconnect function provides additional protection from catastrophic failures and fire hazards, even under the extreme circumstances of varistor end of life or sustained overvoltage conditions. The series-connected LSP10 is the worldâ s first indicating surge arrestor that can handle 20,000 A surges. The NANO2 Subminiature 470 and 476 Fuses provide surge tolerance and protection against overload conditions for downstream components. Their highly compact, surface-mountable (SMT) packages provide for greater design flexibility in space-constrained applications and supports faster placement speed and higher yields during product manufacturing. The 470 Series is the smallest 125VAC-rated SMT fuse available in the Littelfuse portfolio. It has outstanding performance characteristics, including high breaking capacity and unparalleled i2t values. The 476 Series 250VAC-rated fuses are the smallest SMT fuse with this high voltage rating. Both fuses are designed for primary side circuit protection in compact applications with high AC voltage requirements.
