littelfuse inc (LFUS) Key Developments

Littelfuse, Inc. Introduces the XGD Series XTREME-GUARD™ ESD Suppressor

Littelfuse Inc. has introduced the XGD Series XTREME-GUARD™ ESD Suppressor, available in 0402- and 0603-sized, flat-topped surface mount packages. Based on breakthrough ESD technology, it protects sensitive electronics against electrostatic discharges as high as 30kV and is suitable for high voltage applications up to 32VDC. When correctly integrated into a circuit design, the XGD Series can safely absorb repetitive ESD strikes nearly four times the maximum level specified in the IEC61000-4-2 international standard without performance degradation. Extremely low capacitance makes the XGD Series suitable for use in high-frequency and high-speed data, video, antenna and I/O circuits. Even after multiple ESD strikes, it exhibits ultra-low current leakage (<1nA), ensuring minimal power losses, so it’s well-suited for protecting battery-powered electronics like wearables. Both sizes offer much higher voltage ratings than other ESD suppressors with similar board footprints; they also offer far greater ESD protection than many TVS Diodes while providing much lower capacitance and leakage current and higher voltage ratings. Applications can be found in the industrial, consumer electronics, telecom/datacom, and white goods/home appliances markets. XGD Series ESD Suppressors offer these key benefits, their high ESD withstand rating provides a greater level of ESD protection and design flexibility for enclosures, buttons and touchscreens. Their high voltage ratings (24VDC for the XGD10402, 32VDC for the XGD10603) offer wider voltage ranges for a broader variety of electronic devices. XGD Series devices have less than one nano-amp of leakage current, reducing power consumption, so they’re well suited for use in battery-powered devices. Their ultra-low capacitance (0.04pF for XGD10402, 0.09pF for XGD10603) is ideal for use in high-frequency and high-speed data, video, antenna and I/O circuits. Their flat top and surface mount form factor simplifies pick-and-place assembly and allows for more compact circuit board designs. The XGD10402 Series is packaged in a 0402 surface mount package and is provided in tape & reel form in quantities of 10,000. The XGD10603 Series is packaged in a 0603 surface package and is provided in tape & reel form in quantities of either 1,000 or 5,000.

Littelfuse Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 27, 2015. For the quarter, the company announced net sales of $222,021,000 compared to $220,908,000 for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $36,171,000 compared to $33,719,000 for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $37,717,000 compared to $31,562,000 for the same period a year ago. Net income was $28,684,000 or $1.26 per basic and diluted share compared to $24,578,000 or $1.08 per diluted share for the same period a year ago. Sales for the second quarter increased due to continued growth in automotive and improvement in the electrical business. Cash provided by operating activities was $38.7 million for the second quarter of 2015 compared to $31.0 million for the second quarter of 2014. Capital expenditures for the second quarter of 2015 increased to $14.1 million compared to $6.7 million for the second quarter of 2014 primarily related to capacity addition for new automotive programs and the manufacturing transfer to the Philippines. Adjusted diluted EPS was $1.33 compared to $1.26 for the same period a year ago. Adjusted operating income was $39.6 million compared to $37.2 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $49.9 million compared to $47.8 million for the same period a year ago. For the six months, the company announced net sales of $432,334,000 compared to $427,767,000 for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $65,719,000 compared to $67,309,000 for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $64,123,000 compared to $65,374,000 for the same period a year ago. Adjusted operating income was $72.1 million compared to $72.3 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $92.9 million compared to $93.0 million for the same period a year ago. Capital expenditures of $26 million for the first half were also well ahead of last year as it near completion of the new Philippines plant and add production capacity for new automotive products. The company provided earnings guidance for the third quarter and tax rate and capital expenditure guidance for the full year of fiscal 2015. Sales for the third quarter of 2015 are expected to be in the range of $211 million to $221 million. At the midpoint, this is flat with the prior year quarter or approximately 4% growth on a constant currency basis. Earnings for the third quarter of 2015 are expected to be in the range of $1.24 to $1.36 per diluted share. This includes negative currency effects of approximately $0.10 compared to the prior year. The full year effective tax rate is expected to be approximately 23.5%, although this assumes that Congress approves the R&D credit and the look-through provision for 2015 as it did in 2014. Until such time, the rate is expected to be about 50 basis points higher. The company announced that capital expenditures will slow down in the second half resulting in full year capital expenditures of approximately $40 million to $45 million. The board of the company has approved a 16% increase in the quarterly cash dividend from $0.25 to $0.29 per share. This dividend is payable on September 3, 2015 to shareholders of record at the close of business on August 20, 2015.

Littelfuse, Inc. Introduces SP3312T Series 3.3V, 15A TVS Diode Array

Littelfuse Inc. announced that it has introduced the SP3312T Series 3.3V, 15A TVS Diode Array (SPA® Diodes), which integrates four channels (two differential pairs) of low capacitance diodes to protect sensitive I/O pins from damage due to lightning-induced surge events and electrostatic discharge (ESD). The SP3312T Series provides circuit designers with 71% lower capacitance solution than other devices, which helps preserve signal integrity and minimize data loss. It also provides up to 150% higher power handling capacity than competing solutions. This robust device can safely absorb up to 15A per IEC 61000-4-5 (tp=8/20µs) without performance degradation and a minimum ±30kV ESD per IEC 61000-4-2. Targeted applications include 10/100/1000 Ethernet, LAN/WAN equipment, home automation and security, which benefits from the SP3312T superior clamping performance in a space-saving 2.0 x 1.0mm µDFN-08 package with a typical height of 0.40mm Ultra fast acting silicon-based ESD protection, designed to shunt transient voltage events at a level just above standard operating voltages provides a superior choice when compared to existing solutions. All SP3312T Series TVS Diode Arrays offer these key benefits: Excellent surge protection with a peak pulse power rating of 250W. Compared to similar market solutions, the SP3312T Series offers far more overhead to electrical threats defined by regulatory standards; Negligible variability in capacitance over the operating voltage range allows for improved signal integrity of the lines the device is protecting, as well as less eye diagram degradation when compared with competing solutions; 15A peak current ESD protection allows manufacturers to claim ESD protection above the maximum level stated in the IEC standard and protects against a multitude of other threats to ensure product reliability in the field; and Small form factor µDFN-08 package (1.8x2.0x0.554mm) allows straight-through routing, so the PCB trace can be routed beneath the device without the need for stub traces that can cause signal degradation. The SP3312T Series is packaged in a small form factor µDFN-08 package and is provided in tape & reel form in quantities of 3,000.
