littelfuse inc (LFUS) Key Developments

Littelfuse, Inc. Introduces Two New Product Series, the LTKAK6 and LTKAK10 Series TVS Diodes

Littelfuse Inc. has introduced two new product series, the LTKAK6 and LTKAK10 Series TVS Diodes, designed to offer clamping characteristics superior to those of standard silicon avalanche diode (SAD) technologies. This superior performance is made possible by Littelfuse Foldbak technology, which provides a clamping voltage lower than the avalanche voltage but above the rated working voltage. As a result, any voltage rise due to increased current conduction is minimized. Both products can be connected in series and/or parallel to create a variety of flexible protection solutions. They provide the same enhanced quality, easy manufacturing and compact mechanical design found in the company’s AK Series TVS Diode families. Additionally, because they are provided in a surface mount SMTO-218 package, they allow circuit designers to save even more circuit board space. This surface mount package is ideal for automatic pick and place assembly and reflow processes, allowing for a lower manufacturing cost and greater soldering quality than axial leads packages. Typical applications for the LTKAK6 and LTKAK10 Series TVS Diodes include transient overvoltage protection for cell phone base stations, industrial transient voltage surge suppressors (TVSSs), railway (railroad) trackside signaling and control cabinets, defense and avionics, and power grid and distribution systems. LTKAK6 and LTKAK10 Series TVS Diodes offer these key benefits: LTKAK6 and LTKAK10 series in an innovative package (patent pending) design offers the power rating (8x20µs waveform) among surface mount TVS available in current market LTKAK6 and LTKAK10 series in a surface mount package is ideal for automatic pick and place assembly and reflow processes, allowing for a lower manufacturing cost and greater soldering quality than axial leads packages. Because LTKAK6 and LTKAK10 TVS Diodes can withstand multiple surge events, they will help equipment manufacturers extend their product warranties because, unlike passive MOVs, these semiconductor TVS Diodes do not wear out, which makes them ideal for protecting valuable loads. These TVS Diodes are certified, environmentally friendly and suitable for worldwide usage that can help designers meet global regulatory standards. The LTKAK6 and LTKAK10 Series TVS Diodes are available in SMTO-218 surface mount packages and are sold in quantities of 400 in tape-and-reel packaging or quantities of 100 in tube pack (25 per tube). Sample requests can be placed through authorized Littelfuse distributors worldwide.

Littelfuse, Inc. Introduces SPxx-01WTG-C-HV Series

Littelfuse Inc. introduced the SPxx-01WTG-C-HV Series (SPxx Series) of general purpose ESD Protection TVS Diode Arrays (SPA® Diodes). The SPxx Series extends previous improvements for protecting sensitive electronic devices from damage due to electrostatic discharge (ESD) and other overvoltage transients. These new “high-voltage” 0201-size components are well suited for safeguarding the data lines on larger touchscreen modules that are used in large-format tablets and notebooks. They use higher voltages across their rows and columns to allow the touchscreen to distinguish between intended and unintended touches. The SPxx Series can safely absorb repetitive ESD strikes above the maximum level of the IEC61000-4-2 international standard without performance degradation and safely dissipate up to 8A of induced surge current with comparatively low clamping voltages. In addition, when compared to other industry solutions, it offers 25% higher peak pulse power, 50% lower leakage current, and up to 40% lower capacitance. Unlike those other solutions, the SPxx Series is AEC-Q101 qualified, assuring circuit designers of automotive-grade quality. Typical applications for SPxx Series TVS Diode Arrays include ESD protection for touchscreens, portable instrumentation, LED lighting modules, and low speed I/Os. SPxx Series TVS Diode Arrays offer these key benefits: They promote high ESD immunity and superior protection, giving design engineers more design margin and higher end-product reliability in the field. They are available in bidirectional configuration at standoff voltages of 12V, 15V, 24V or 36V, enabling protection of 95% of all interfaces. Their low dynamic resistance of 0.4 ohms produces low clamping voltages, allowing for protection of modern/small geometry chipsets against industry-defined ESD transients.
