Alpha Natural Resources Reportedly Mulls Sale Of Assets

Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (OTCPK:ANRZ.Q) may sell assets. The company is planning to sell at least 16 shuttered coal mines in four states. The Register-Herald reported that the mines that will be put up for sale are located in West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois, but Alpha Natural Resources did not specify which mines that would be. Citing ‘adverse market conditions,’ Alpha said earlier in October 2015 that it plans to idle two mines in Raleigh County by November 30, 2015.

Alpha Natural Resources Seeks Sale Of Certain Mining Properties

Alpha Natural Resources, Inc. (OTCPK:ANRZ.Q) is seeking to sell certain mining properties, assets and related infrastructure. Alpha Natural Resources filed a motion seeking approval from the Bankruptcy Court for the bidding procedures for the sale. Potential Bidder must deposit with the Debtors a cash deposit equal to 10% of the cash consideration payable at closing. The deadline for the submission of bids is January 20, 2015. Jeffrey B. Alpha Natural Resources Plans to Idle Two Coal Mines in Southern West Virginia and Lay Off 92 Workers

Alpha Natural Resources plans to idle two coal mines in southern West Virginia and lay off 92 workers at the end of November 2015. The Register-Herald reported that state and Raleigh County officials received a letter on October 6, 2015 from Alpha notifying them of the layoffs. Bristol plans to idle the Edwight Source Mine and Independence Coal Co.'s Tunnel Mine on November 30. The letter attributes the mines' idling to adverse market conditions. The Edwight mine employs 79 workers and the Tunnel Mine employs 13 workers. The layoffs are expected to be permanent.
