Springleaf Holdings, Inc. Announces Consolidated Unaudited Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2015; Reports Charge Offs for the First Quarter of 2015; Provides Net Charge Off Guidance for the Second Quarter and Full Year of 2015

Springleaf Holdings, Inc. announced consolidated unaudited earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported total interest income of $406 million against $552 million a year ago. Net interest income was $248 million against $347 million a year ago. Income before provision for income taxes was $38 million against $99 million a year ago. Net income was $31 million against $68 million a year ago. For core consumer operations, core earnings (a non-GAAP measure) for the quarter was $64 million, a 28% increase from $50 million in the prior year quarter, and core earnings per diluted share (a non-GAAP measure) was $0.55 for the first quarter versus $0.43 in the prior year quarter. Pretax operating loss attributable to non-controlling interests was $31 million against $16 million a year ago. Pretax core earnings was $101 million against $80 million a year ago, which represents a 27% increase from the first quarter 2014. The company had total outstanding debt of $9.6 billion at quarter-end, in a variety of debt instruments. GAAP basis net income attributable to company of $0 million, or $0.00 per diluted share, compared with net income of $52 million or $0.45 per diluted share in the first quarter of 2014, which included a pretax gain of $55 million on the sale of real estate assets. The company reported 5.6% charge-off rate for the first quarter of 2015. The company expects charge-offs to come down in the second quarter of 2015. The company expects full year 2015 net charge off guidance of 5% to 5.5%.
