Leidos Holdings, Inc. operates as an applied technology company in the United States. It operates through National Security Solutions (NSS), and Health and Engineering (HES) segments. The NSS segment offers solutions and systems for air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace for the U.S. intelligence community, the U.S. department of defense, military services, the U.S. department of homeland security, and government agencies of U.S. allies abroad. Its solutions offer technology, intelligence systems, command and control, data analytics, cybersecurity, logistics, and intelligence analysis and operations support services to critical missions. The HES segment offers electronic health record (EHR) system and behavior health services; implements and optimizes EHR systems at commercial hospitals; and provides consulting and operational support services for ICD-10 transition, IT strategy, revenue cycle management, accountable care transformation, risk management, technology infrastructure, and project management. It also provides life science research and development support services to the National Institute of Health, Center for Disease Control, Army Medical Research community, commercial biotech companies, and the Frederick national laboratory for cancer research in genetics and genomics, proteins and proteomics, biomedical computing and information technology, biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing, nanotechnology characterization, and clinical trials management areas. In addition, this segment offers process industries engineering services and solutions to mid-tier refineries and industrial companies; security products, services, and solutions; power grid engineering services and solutions; engineering and consulting services to electric utilities and transmission companies; federal environmental and engineering services; and transaction and asset valuation services for the power industry. The company was founded in 1969 and is headquartered in Reston, Virginia.

Leidos Wins Prime Contract from U.S. Navy to Provide Scientific, Engineering and Technical Services

Leidos was awarded a prime contract by the U.S. Navy to provide scientific, engineering, and technical services in support of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD). The single-award, cost-plus fixed-fee indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract has a four-year period of performance and a total contract value of approximately $49 million. Work will be performed primarily in West Bethesda, Md. Under the contract, Leidos will provide scientific, engineering, and technical services required for the design, development, fabrication, integration, test, fleet implementation, and maintenance of synthetic signature generation-based training and analysis systems utilizing the All World Environment Simulation (AWESIM) and the Periscope Simulation (PSIM) visual simulation.

Leidos Holdings, Inc. Appoints Jonathan Scholl as Health and Engineering Sector President, Effective June 22, 2015

Leidos Holdings, Inc. announced the appointment of Jonathan Scholl as Health and Engineering Sector President, effective June 22, 2015. In his new role, Scholl will lead nearly 7,000 employees working in the areas of healthcare IT, electronic health records, advanced data analytics, health and life sciences, and clinical research. He will also oversee operations related to energy grid and critical infrastructure, design, engineering and transportation security products. Scholl will work out of the company's headquarters in Reston, Va. Scholl most recently served for five years as the Chief Strategy Officer for Texas Health Resources.  During his tenure, he was responsible for the system's strategic planning and business development functions, information technology, and joint venture operations. Prior to that, he spent 15 years with The Boston Consulting group and served as Head of their North American Healthcare Provider Practice and leader of their Lean Six Sigma initiative for hospitals. He also served as vice president for applications development for the TenFold HealthCare Group in Dallas.

Leidos Holdings, Inc. Announces Unaudited Consolidated Earnings Results for First Quarter Ended April 3, 2015; Affirms Earnings Guidance for the Year Ending January 1, 2016

Leidos Holdings, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for first quarter ended April 3, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported revenues of $1,246 million against $1,312 million a year ago. Operating income was $38 million against $87 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations before income taxes was $23 million against $69 million a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $23 million against $45 million a year ago. Net income was $41 million against $37 million a year ago. Diluted income per share from continuing operations was $0.31 against $0.57 a year ago. Diluted income per share was $0.55 against $0.47 a year ago. Total cash flows used in operating activities of continuing operations was $42 million against $9 million a year ago. Expenditures for property, plant and equipment was $3 million against $10 million a year ago. Non-GAAP income from continuing operations was $49 million against $46 million a year ago. Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share from continuing operations were $0.65 against $0.59 a year ago. This was as expected and driven by lower net interest expense, a lower effective tax rate and a lower share count from buybacks made in 2014. Non-GAAP operating income was $80 million represents a margin of 6.4%, down slightly compared to the prior year. Revenues decreased year-over-year by $82 million or 9%. 70% of this decline was due to the continued reduction in U.S. overseas war-related or Overseas Contingency Operations funded business, otherwise known as OCO. The company affirmed its earnings guidance for the year ending January 1, 2016. For the period, the company expects revenues to be between $4.6 billion to $5.0 billion, Non-GAAP diluted earnings per share from continuing operations to be between $2.20 to $2.45, and cash flows provided by operating activities from continuing operations to be at or above $200 million.
