Kemira Oyj operates as a chemical company in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Americas, and the Asia Pacific. The company operates in three segments: Paper, the Oil & Mining, and the Municipal & Industrial. The Paper segment provides retention, sizing, strength, surface treatment, coating, and process chemicals; and bleaching and pulping chemicals. Its products are used in pulp, paper, board, and tissue production, as well as pulping, bleaching, wet-end and coating chemistry, and water treatment applications. This segment sells its products directly to pulp and paper producers. The Oil & Mining segment offers polymers, dispersants and antiscalants, biocides, emulsifiers, and defoamers, as well as dry and emulsion polyacrylamides and related process chemicals. This segment’s products are used in drilling and cementing, stimulation, oil sands, and chemically enhanced oil recovery and production, as well as iron ore, copper, gold recovery, and white pigments mining applications. It offers its products directly to pumpers, operators and service companies, and mining operators, as well as other industries through distributors. The Municipal & Industrial segment primarily provides water treatment chemicals and commodity products comprising aluminum and iron-based coagulants. This segment’s products are used for raw and waste water, as well as sludge treatment applications. It offers its products to municipal and industrial customers through direct sales and distributors. Kemira Oyj was founded in 1920 and is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland.

Kemira Oyj Announces Executive Changes

Tero Huovinen has been appointed SVP, Communications and Corporate Responsibility of Kemira Oyj as of August 1, 2015. He reports to Kemira's President and CEO Jari Rosendal. Huovinen has been working as VP, Investor Relations in Kemira since 2010. He will also continue in his current position on interim basis until the appointment of a new head of investor relations. Leena Lie, Kemira Oyj's current SVP, Communications and Corporate Responsibility will leave Kemira to take up the position of SVP, Communications at Cargotec Oyj.

Kemira Oyj Announces Opening of Large-Scale Water Treatment Chemicals Plant in Tarragona, Spain

On June 2, 2015, Kemira Oyj is celebrating the grand opening of one of Europe's large production plants for the manufacture of water treatment chemicals. The Tarragona plant located in La Canonja, Catalonia, Spain, also has a unit for the manufacture of sizing agents used in the pulp and paper industry. The Tarragona plant, located at Bayer Material Science's industrial site, is able to produce the entire range of Kemira's aluminum and iron-based coagulants that are used for drinking water and wastewater treatment: polyaluminum chloride, aluminum sulfate and ferric chloride. It also produces some of the most widely used functional chemicals for the paper industry.
