KKR & Carlyle Will Bid for Korean Unit Of Tesco

Tesco PLC (LSE:TSCO) is also hoping to sell its south korean unit. Private equity firms have formed three separate teams to bid according to reports. Affinity Equity Partners has allied with KKR & Co. L.P. (NYSE:KKR), while The Carlyle Group LP (NasdaqGS:CG) has joined up with Singapore's GIC. Additionally MBK partners has sought equity funding from South Korea's National Pension Service to bid for the unit. The sale will help finance a turnaround plan after the retailer racked up a £6.38 billion loss last year.

Google Inc and Amazon In Talks With Tata

Google Inc. (NasdaqGS:GOOGL) and Amazon.com Inc. (NasdaqGS:AMZN) are in talks with Tata Sons Limited to buy Tata Communications Data Centers Private Limited of Tata Communications Limited (BSE:500483) in a deal expected to fetch about $650-700 million. Sembcorp Industries Ltd (SGX:U96), The Blackstone Group L.P. (NYSE:BX), The Carlyle Group LP (NasdaqGS:CG), KKR & Co. L.P. (NYSE:KKR), Bain Capital, LLC and Advent International Corporation are all looking to buy up to 74% stake in the data centre unit and take control of the business. The salt-to-steel conglomerate is likely to retain a minority stake.

Promoters of Gland Pharma Limited are reportedly seeking to sell stakes. Promoters of Gland Pharma have decided to put their controlling stake on the block, three people with direct knowledge of the matter said. Ravi Penmetsa and family, which controls 60% of Gland Pharma, have mandated investment bank Jefferies & Co to look for buyers, these people said, adding that they are expecting an enterprise valuation of $1-1.2 billion. "They have started reaching out to global strategic players on behalf of promoters," said an investment banker with knowledge of the deal. KKR & Co. L.P. (NYSE:KKR) may exercise its right of first refusal to match the highest bid and take over the company as per its current agreement with the Gland promoters. Alternatively, it can also opt for put, or the right to exit, if valuations cross the expected billion dollar mark, having more than doubled the value of its 18 month old investment. A Gland spokesperson did not respond to Economic Times's mail seeking comments last week.
