Korea Electric Power Corporation, integrated electric utility company, generates, transmits, and distributes electricity in Korea and internationally. The company operates through Transmission and Distribution, Electric Power Generation (Nuclear), Electric Power Generation (Non-Nuclear), Plant Maintenance & Engineering Service, and Others segments. It generates power from nuclear, coal, oil, liquefied natural gas, internal combustion, hydro, solar/wind, and biomass sources. As of December 31, 2014, the company had a total of 607 generation units, including nuclear, thermal, hydroelectric, and internal combustion units with an installed generation capacity of 72,305 megawatts. Its transmission system consisted of 32,795 circuit kilometers of lines of 765 kilovolts and others, including high-voltage direct current lines, as well as 805 substations with an installed transformer capacity of 285,242 megavolt-amperes; and distribution system consisted of 107,804 megavolt-amperes of transformer capacity and 8,832,409 units of support with a total line length of 457,249 circuit kilometers. The company provides electricity to residential, commercial, educational, industrial, agricultural, street lighting, and overnight power usage. It is also involved in providing plant maintenance and engineering services, and information services; selling nuclear fuel; and communication line leasing activities, as well as developing uranium mine. Korea Electric Power Corporation was founded in 1961 and is headquartered in Naju, South Korea.

PowerStream and Korea Electric Power Corporation Enter into Memorandum of Agreement For Four Project Initiatives

PowerStream and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) that outlines four project initiatives the two energy companies will undertake over the next three to five years to further the development of smart distribution and micro grid networks in the North American electricity marketplace. The new agreement specifies the following projects that PowerStream and KEPCO will pursue over the next few years: Building and operating a distribution level micro grid network in Penetanguishene, Ontario. Designing and building an electricity market and service model for the distribution management system (DMS) and micro grid service sector. Implementing and demonstrating a full-scale smart DMS as a replacement technology for conventional supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system technology. Developing the strategy and plan for the marketing and sales of smart DMS and distribution level micro grid operation systems in the North American market.

POSCO Sign a Comprehensive MOU for Business Cooperation with KEPCO to Develop New Energy Technologies and Discover New Business Opportunities

On June 19, POSCO signed a comprehensive MOU for business cooperation with KEPCO. Through this MOU, POSCO and KEPCO established a cooperative system to develop new energy technologies and discover new business opportunities. Dually representing the national infrastructure for power and steel, both companies are planning to increase competitiveness for new order acquisition by establishing an optimal overseas export consortium by leveraging their strengths in the energy sector. In addition, they also plan to take the lead in creating a new market for creative economy by working together in the new energy technology and new business sectors. First, they will strengthen the development of the Independent Power Plant (IPP) and cooperate on bids for new projects in the Middle East, Southeast Asia and Central and South America by establishing an optimal consortium pursuant to the acquisition of new orders from overseas power generation projects, such as thermal power and new and renewable energy. In addition, they also intend to work together to develop climate change-related technologies such as sulfur hexafluoride (SF6), carbon reduction and medium-low temperature generation technologies using waste heat and geothermal heat. They also plan to create a synergy effect in order to mutually engage overseas markets in the area of new businesses, including energy storage systems (ESS) and synthetic natural gas (SNG). KEPCO Korea Electric Power Research Institute (KEMRI) and POSRI will operate an economic management research forum with KT Economic Management Research Institute, and regularly hold symposiums.

China Huaneng Group and KEPCO Sign Memorandum of Understanding

China Huaneng Group and Korea Electric Power Corporation respectively signed MOU on project cooperation, MOU on soft science strategic cooperation and MOU on technology R&D cooperation. According to the three MOUs, China Huaneng Group and KEPCO will mobilize their respective advantages, and actively promote mutual cooperation on a wide range of areas, including overseas project joint development, softscience research on corporate strategy and management, and market analysis, and environmental technology R&D, as well as personnel training.
