Its products include IAR Embedded Workbench, a set of development tools for building and debugging embedded applications; IAR visualSTATE, a machine design tool for embedded systems that offers verification and validation tools, and generates compact C code; IAR KickStart Kit, an evaluation environment solution for embedded system applications; and I-jet and JTAGjet-Trace in-circuit debugging probes that connect a processor to a PC host and are used by developers to analyze and debug code in embedded systems. The company also provides starter kits and debug probes through e-shop; and integrated real-time operating system products, as well as a range of wireless and software solutions. I.A.R. Systems Group AB was founded in 1983 and is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden.

IAR Systems has been selected by SEARAN as its preferred tools vendor for integration of the Bluetooth software dotstack™ in embedded applications. Using the development toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench® together with dotstack, developers are able to take full advantage of all the low-power features of dotstack enabling new possibilities for connected products.

IAR Systems Releases Version 2.70 of its Development Tool Chain IAR Embedded Workbench

IAR Systems has released version 2.70 of its development tool chain IAR Embedded Workbench® for Renesas RX family of MCUs. In addition to new features including position-independent code and data, version 2.70 adds updated device support and example projects for the latest Renesas devices. The support includes the new Renesas RX71M group with advanced security features for the industrial Internet of Things. Renesas’ RX71M group addresses the critical importance of security in embedded design for industrial equipment where connectivity is added to more and more applications. IAR Systems is the only tool vendor to provide high-performance tools for the entire line-up of Renesas MCUs. With the new version of IAR Embedded Workbench for RX comes the possibility of having the IAR C/C++ Compiler™ generate both position-independent code and/or position-independent data. This feature is ideal for developers using operating systems where modules are built completely position-independent and can be located anywhere in memory. The new version also includes enhancements to the already very efficient code optimization techniques. The optimizations for code size and execution speed provided by the IAR C/C++ Compiler perform on multiple levels, global as well as core/target-specific. The developer is able to tune the optimizations to achieve the best possible configuration for the application at hand. Major functions of the optimizer, such as loop unrolling and function inlining, can be controlled individually, and by setting different optimizations for different parts of the code, the right balance between size and speed can be achieved. Introduced in the C-SPY® Debugger included with IAR Embedded Workbench is functionality for saving C-SPY Watch window content. Also added is an RTOS-awareness plugin for the Quadros RTXC realtime operating system.

IAR Systems Adds Major Functionality to Leading Tools for Texas Instruments’ MSP430 Microcontrollers

IAR Systems has launched a new version of its toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench® for Texas Instruments’ ultra-low-power MSP430™ microcontrollers. In addition to the add-on product C-STAT® for integrated static code analysis, version 6.30 introduces stack usage analysis and faster build times through parallel build. Stack usage analysis provides details on the maximum stack depth in an application. Calculating the stack space is notoriously hard for all but the small embedded systems. This fact makes worst case maximum stack depth very useful information in most embedded projects. Using the stack information now available greatly simplifies estimations of how much stack an application will need. Enabling stack usage analysis in IAR Embedded Workbench for MSP430 MCUs adds a stack usage section to the linker map file with listings of the maximum stack depth for each call graph root. The analysis process can be customized to take into account such constructs as calls via function pointers and recursion. The output can optionally be generated in XML format for post-processing activities. Static code analysis performs source code level checks that can help developers detect potential code errors in complex applications and ensure compliance with coding standards for embedded applications in various segments. C-STAT is a powerful static analysis tool that executes fast and provides analysis results directly in the IAR Embedded Workbench IDE. It checks compliance with rules as defined by the coding standards MISRA C:2004, MISRA C++:2008 and MISRA C:2012, as well as hundreds of rules based on for example CWE (the Common Weakness Enumeration) and CERT C/C++. C-STAT is available as an add-on product. To speed up build times, the user can now set the compiler to run in several parallel processes and make better use of the available processor cores in the PC. This feature can have a major impact on reducing the build times of the compiler.
