Autonomy's Founder Mike Lynch Sues Hewlett-Packard over Loss of Reputation

Autonomy's founder Mike Lynch hit back in his bitter feud with Hewlett-Packard by launching a $160 million counter-claim over allegations of fraud following the illfated $11.1 billion takeover of the company. The technology entrepreneur claimed HP made false and negligent statements about him which led to reputational damage and meant he has been unable to pursue business opportunities since leaving Autonomy. Mr. Lynch claimed talks with potential investors in his new venture Invoke Capital have fallen through as a result. He estimates he would have pocketed at least $160 million through considerable equity gains and fees. HP is suing Mr. Lynch, Autonomy's ex-chief executive, and the company's former chief financial officer Sushovan Hussain for $5.1 billion in one of the large civil lawsuits against British nationals after it wrote down the value of the disastrous acquisition in 2012 by a staggering $8.8 billion.

Hewlett-Packard Announces Three New LaserJet Printers

Hewlett-Packard has announced three new LaserJet printers that deliver increased protection against malicious attacks. HP is delivering its new HP LaserJet Enterprise printers and multi-function printers (MFPs) with security features built in, including HP Sure Start enables detection of and self-healing recovery from malicious BIOS attacks, extending the same BIOS security protecting HP's Elite line of PC's since 2013 to the new HP LaserJet Enterprise printers. White listing ensures only known, good firmware can be loaded and executed on a printer. Run-time Intrusion Detection is a new feature providing in-device memory monitoring for malicious attacks. It as developed in partnership with Red Balloon Security. The new HP LaserJet Enterprise printers and MFPs deliver a fast real world print performance in their class with a fast first page out and dual-sided print speeds as well as low total energy consumption per page. These printers were built for ease of use and include support for printing from mobile devices. Designed for workgroups of 5-15 users printing up to 7,500 pages per month, the printers benefit from the increased performance, protection and print capacity of new HP Original Toner cartridges with Jet Intelligence. The new models includes the HP LaserJet Enterprise M506 series for monochrome printing with a 25% smaller footprint and dual-sided print speeds up to 71% faster than its predecessor. The HP LaserJet Enterprise MFP M527 series, which offers monochrome printing in an MFP that includes single pass, two-sided scanning, an eight-inch color touch screen control panel to support advanced workflow, and first page out speeds up to 33 % faster than its predecessor. The HP Color LaserJet Enterprise MFP M577 series, delivers outstanding color printing in an MFP that includes single pass, two-sided scanning, an eight-inch color touch screen control panel and optional keyboard to support advanced workflow, as well as dual-sided print speeds up to 43% faster than its predecessor. The HP LaserJet Enterprise M506 series will be generally available on October 1 and the HP LaserJet Enterprise MFP M527 and HP Color LaserJet Enterprise MFP M577 series printers will be generally available on November 2.

HP Announces the HP Z240 Tower and Z240 SFF Workstations with Next Generation Intel Processors and HP Z Turbo Drive Options

HP announced the HP Z240 Tower and Z240 SFF Workstations with next generation Intel(r) processors and HP Z Turbo Drive options, raising the bar for entry-level workstations, while providing the reliability of a workstation at the price point of a desktop PC. The Z240 is the latest update to the entry-level workstation, the HP Z230.1 As HP's most affordable workstation, the Z240 is ideal for customers in the video editing, MCAD/AEC, education, public sector and image viewing industries. HP has integrated seven new innovations on the HP Z240 Workstations. An integrated M.2 slot (for expansion cards and connectors on both the SFF and tower) frees up a PCIe slot and provides customers more flexibility and expandability to use HP Z Turbo Drives without having to make a tradeoff on additional graphics cards, an additional HP Z Turbo Drive, or other devices like Thunderbolt(TM). Optional dust filters can be added to both the HP Z240 Tower and Z240 SFF to help reduce the ingress of dust in the system. With up to 47% reduction in dust2, this option provides customers in all work environments where dust is an issue -- from under the desk to dusty manufacturing floors -- with added reliability and longevity. Removed the legacy PCI slot, which is used by less than 2% of customers, from the motherboard and designed a plug-in card for effortless installation for customers that still use the legacy slot. Removing the slot from the motherboard allowed HP to reinvest in other product innovations (M.2 slot, dust filter). Despite adding new features to the motherboard, HP engineering was able to reduce the size of the motherboard on the Z240 Tower by 10% and simplified the cable layouts inside the systems, continuing to push for more efficient product designs. The Z240 Tower now features integrated front and rear handle ledges to enable every customer to easily move and position their system around the office. HP re-engineered the hard drive cage for the Z240 SFF and engineered a custom air duct around the processor, allowing more efficient air flow, enhanced acoustics and a cleaner layout of internal cables. HP integrated ambient temperature sensors on the motherboard of both systems, and increased control of the system fans to include the power supply, giving even better management of system thermals and acoustics, including the power supply (as compared to previous generations). Leveraging innovations originally created for the higher-end HP Z Workstations, the HP Z240 offers more performance, greater storage capacity, more IO and greater flexibility of the previous generations while retaining the same form factor. At 57% smaller than the tower, the HP Z240 SFF conserves space and maintains workstation performance. The Z240 features up to 64 GB DDR4 ECC memory -- a 100% increase in memory capacity compared to previous generations -- for no compromise capacity, performance and reliability. The expanded memory options allow customers to push the limits of design to create larger, more complex models/designs that require larger memory footprints. It also provides customers with more expandability options. The HP Z240 Tower and Z240 SFF offer a choice of future Intel(r) Xeon(r) processor E3-1200 v5 product families, Intel(r) Core(TM), or Intel(r) Pentium(TM) processors3 and two ultra-fast HP Z Turbo Drive G2. The HP Z Turbo Drive allows workstation users to super-charge productivity and creativity of workflows. The Z240 offers a choice of Windows 7, Windows 104 or Linux(r) operating systems. Pricing and Availability: The HP Z240 SFF and HP Z240 are expected to be available in November. Estimated U.S. pricing starts at $879 for either workstation.
