The company is involved in the production, purchase, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity. Its renewable energy sources and potential sources include wind, solar, photovoltaic, geothermal, wave, hydroelectric, sugarcane waste, municipal waste, and other bio fuels, as well as fuel oils. The company distributes and sells electricity on the islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Lanai, and Molokai; and serves suburban communities, resorts, the United States armed forces installations, and agricultural operations. Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. also provides banking and other financial services, including deposit products, such as savings accounts, checking accounts, money market accounts, and certificates of deposit; and loans comprising residential and commercial real estate, residential mortgage, construction and development, multifamily residential and commercial real estate, consumer, and commercial loans to consumers and business. The company was founded in 1891 and is headquartered in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Hawaiian Electric Industries Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company’s total revenues were USD 790,040,000 against USD 832,503,000 a year ago. Total operating income was USD 67,241,000 against USD 78,349,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was USD 52,077,000 against USD 61,237,000 a year ago. Net income for common stock was USD 33,157,000 or USD 0.32 per basic and diluted share against USD 39,013,000 or USD 0.39 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Non -GAAP core net income was USD 37.5 million against USD 39.0 million a year ago. Non -GAAP core diluted earnings per share was USD 0.36 against USD 0.39 a year ago.
