hawaiian telcom holdco inc (HCOM) Key Developments

Hawaiian Telcom Holdco, Inc. Reports Consolidated Unaudited Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and First Half Ended June 30, 2015; Provides Capital Expenditures Guidance for 2015

Hawaiian Telcom Holdco, Inc. reported consolidated unaudited earnings results for the second quarter and first half ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company's revenue totaled $96.2 million compared to $96.8 million in the second quarter of 2014. Revenue growth in the quarter was driven by video, high-speed Internet and data center and cloud services was primarily offset by the anticipated revenue declines from legacy services. Adjusted EBITDA for the quarter totaled $30 million, up 2.6% year-over-year, and the company generated net income of $0.5 million or $0.04 per diluted share compared to $2.2 million or $0.20 per diluted share in the same period a year ago. The decrease was primarily due to a $3.1 million year-over-year increase in depreciation and amortization as a result of the significant investments made to broadband fiber network. Operating income was $5.260 million against $7.892 million a year ago. Income before income tax provision was $1.098 million against $3.788 million a year ago. Net income was $455,000 against $2.239 million a year ago. Diluted per share was $0.04 against $0.20 per share a year ago. The decrease in net income was primarily due to a $3.1 million expected increase in depreciation and amortization as a result of significant investments made to the Company's broadband fiber network. For the first half, reported CapEx was $52.9 million compared to $51.3 million for the same period in 2014. The year-over-year increase was largely attributable to the initial trans-Pacific submarine cable system milestone payment of $2.3 million and the success-based spending to support the continued growth of next-generation services. Leverage free cash flow was negative $1.6 million. Net cash flow was negative $12 million compared to negative $14 million for the first half of 2014. Net cash provided by operating activities also improved by $2 million versus the same period a year ago, primarily due to lower pension funding and improvements in working capital management. This improvement in operating cash flow was generally offset by the year-over-year increase in capital expenditures. Operating revenue was $193.303 million against $193.856 million a year ago. Operating income was $11.181 million against $16.030 million a year ago. Income before income tax provision was $2.689 million against $7.745 million a year ago. Net income was $1.432 million against $4.604 million a year ago. Diluted per share was $0.13 against $0.41 per share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $39.793 million against $38.639 million a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $58.963 million against $58.099 million a year ago. Overall, total capital expenditures for 2015 are expected to be in the high- $90 million range, consistent with the level of capital spending in 2014.
