For the quarter, the company announced net sales of $2,522,565,000 compared to $2,506,104,000 for the same period a year ago. Operating earnings were $356,717,000 compared to $340,751,000 for the same period a year ago. Earnings before income taxes were $348,686,000 compared to $338,425,000 for the same period a year ago. Net earnings were $225,235,000 compared to $209,077,000 for the same period a year ago. Net earnings attributable to the company were $220,548,000 compared to $205,915,000 for the same period a year ago. Earnings per share, diluted were $3.25 compared to $2.94 for the same period a year ago. Net earnings adjusted were $222,224,000 compared to $216,144,000 for the same period a year ago. Grainger Appoints DG Macpherson as Chief Operating Officer

Grainger announced a change in its leadership structure to drive growth and ensure tighter coordination between operating functions, business units and business models. DG Macpherson assumes the newly created role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the company, effective August 1, 2015, reporting to Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Jim Ryan. As COO, Macpherson will have oversight and accountability for all of the operating units of the company globally, including the company's multi-channel and single channel business models as well as Enterprise Systems. Most recently, Macpherson was Senior Vice President and Group President, Global Supply Chain and International.
