General Motors to Invest $1.2 Billion in Full-Size Truck Plant

General Motors is investing $1.2 billion in its full-size pickup truck plant for upgrades and technology that will improve the plant's competitiveness in assembling high-quality light- and heavy-duty models. Construction of the new pre-treat, electro-coat paint operation and sealing facility, expanded body shop, expanded and new material sequencing centers, and upgraded general assembly area is expected to begin in June and take several years to complete. Full-size truck production schedules will be unaffected by the construction. The investment includes many technological and environmental upgrades: New pre-treatment facility featuring thin-film paint pretreatment, E-coat paint customized to each vehicle style, resulting in superior coverage and curability, GM-patented radiant tube ovens for exceptional paint finish and lower energy use, New equipment that accommodates the many variations of the truck cab and box being placed on the chassis, New skillet conveyance systems for instrument panel assembly intended to improve worker ergonomics, leading to better product quality.

General Motors Co. Plans to Invest More Than $1 Billion to Expand its Operations in Northeast Indiana

General Motors Co. announced the company's plans to invest more than $1 billion to expand its operations in Northeast Indiana. GM will invest more than $1.2 billion to expand and enhance the Fort Wayne Assembly plant's existing 1.3 million-square-foot campus. The new construction, which is expected to total approximately 1.5 million square feet of new space at the plant, will include a new pre-treatment facility and expanded body shop, as well as an expansion of its general assembly capabilities. The upgrades will improve the plant's efficiencies while equipment upgrades will enhance technology and energy efficiency, helping to further reduce emissions.

General Motors Company Invests USD 439 Million in Corvette Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, United States, to Build New Paint Shop

General Motors (GM) is investing USD 439 million in the Chevrolet Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky, United States, to build a new paint shop. GM announced that the investment would help retain 150 jobs. The 450,000-square-feet paint shop is almost half the size of the entire production facility. Construction of the new paint shop is set to begin this summer and will take about two years to complete, and the project will include substantial technology upgrades. Production of the Corvette will be unaffected by the construction work. The new paint shop will have new tooling and robots, as well as dry scrubber brush technology with limestone technology; LED lighting for process decks; FANUC robots with Versa-bell 3 electrostatic applicators; and longer, high-efficiency baking ovens. Separately, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has extended a consent order from one year ago for at least another year.
