Garmin Ltd. Announces Launch of New Datalink Receivers

Garmin Ltd. has launched the new GDL 69 and GDL 69A SXM datalink receivers. These new datalink receivers offer access to new weather service packages with lower activation fees, which are made available by SiriusXM and their latest G4 satellite network. The GDL 69A SXM receiver provides both pilots and passengers with SiriusXM Satellite Radio audio in addition to new weather service packages. The GDL 69 and GDL 69A SXM receiver adds to Garmin's large lineup of datalink weather receivers that offer pilots access to SiriusXM aviation weather information both on the ground and in the air. When paired with a compatible display and/or the Flight Stream 110/Flight Stream 210 and a compatible mobile device using the Garmin Pilot application, SiriusXM aviation weather information delivers seamless coverage throughout the continental US and portions of Canada. Select weather products are also available in Puerto Rico. The base service now includes weather products such as lightning, (including cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground activity), graphical winds aloft, temperatures aloft, AIRMETs and SIGMETs. In addition to providing detailed weather information, the audio-enabled GDL 69A SXM receiver provides SiriusXM Satellite Radio entertainment in the cockpit. The new GDL 69 and GDL 69A SXM receivers use the same antenna, offers pin-for-pin compatibility and slides into an existing GDL 69 rack. With similarities in weight and electrical load, the GDL 69 and GDL 69A SXM receivers are designed as a direct replacement for existing installations. Currently, the GDL 69 and GDL 69A SXM receivers are compatible with the following displays: GTN 750/650 Series, GNS 400W/500W Series, GNS 400/500 Series, G500/G600/G500H, G1000, G950, G900X, GMX 200 and MX 20. The GDL 69 and GDL 69A SXM receivers are expected to be available in April 2015 for a list price starting at $3,875, while the helicopter versions are expected to become available later in the second quarter of 2015.

Garmin Ltd. Has Announces Availability of the Flight Stream 110/210 Bluetooth Wireless Gateway

Garmin Ltd. has announced the availability of the Flight Stream 110/210 Bluetooth wireless gateway. Flight Stream enables connectivity and communication between select Garmin avionics and Garmin Pilot on certain iPad/iPhone and Android devices. Flight Stream is Garmin's latest addition to an expanded Connext portfolio of products and features, offering a true connected cockpit so pilots have easier access to information in flight. The Flight Stream 210 is compatible with the GTN 650/750 and GNS 430/530 WAAS series navigators, as well as the GDL 88 ADS-B datalink and GDL 69/69A SiriusXM datalink receivers. Flight planning is simplified with the Flight Stream 210, which offers wireless flight plan transfer capabilities. The flight plan transfer between Garmin Pilot and corresponding GTN 650/750 or GNS 430W/530W occurs with a couple of taps once the avionics are powered on. Flight planning is simplified even further for customers incorporating Flight Stream 210 with an existing GNS WAAS navigator. Customers who have a GNS 430W/530W now have the ability to incorporate Victor airway navigation into flight plans using the Flight Stream 210 and Garmin Pilot. With a few simple taps within Garmin Pilot, routes, waypoints and airway intersections are quickly transferred to a 430W/530W navigator. Customers with the GTN touchscreen series also have the option of wirelessly uploading Victor airways via Flight Stream and Garmin Pilot. Flight Stream 210 offers pilots enhanced accessibility to the information they need in the cockpit and streamlined flight plan entry throughout the entire flight planning process. Customers who have a GDL 88 ADS-B datalink or GDL 69/69A SiriusXM datalink may also take advantage of the benefits of wireless connectivity with Flight Stream 110. When Flight Stream is paired with the GDL 88, ADS-B traffic and weather is wirelessly displayed within Garmin Pilot. Expanded functionality of the GDL 69/69A is available when incorporating a Flight Stream, which displays SiriusXM Aviation weather on a tablet or phone utilizing Garmin Pilot. Remote control of SiriusXM satellite radio is also available with a free version of Garmin Pilot, including the ability to make channel selections, adjust volume controls, as well as the option to save favorite audio channels. Adding to the wireless versatility of the Flight Stream 110/210, GPS location information from the GTN and GNS WAAS navigators or GDL 88 with an internal WAAS receiver, can be shared to display precise position information for use within Garmin Pilot. Flight Stream 210 also contains an internal attitude sensor, which provides back-up attitude information for display within Garmin Pilot. With a future software update, high-integrity attitude information from a G500/G600 flight display can take priority to display back-up attitude and heading information. Flight Stream 210 is available immediately for a list price of $999 and the Flight Stream 110 is available for a list price of $549. Corresponding software for the GTN and GNS WAAS series is also available as a free upgrade from Garmin Authorized Dealers (installation charges may apply).

Garmin Ltd Announces Availability of New 7-inch G3X Touch Display Option for Amateur-Built and Light Sport Aircraft

Garmin Ltd. announced the availability of the new 7-inch G3X Touch display option for new amateur-built and light sport aircraft. The newest addition to the G3X Touch family features a high-resolution touchscreen display, which complements the existing 10.6-inch G3X Touch system, offering new panel design options and added redundancy. The 7-inch G3X Touch features a robust, infrared touchscreen display, which demonstrates Garmin's industry-leading experience in glass cockpit technology. Pilots and homebuilders who own amateur-built and light sport aircraft have a number of installation options with the 7-inch display, particularly if height and width constraints are of concern in the aircraft panel. Pilots who wish to install more than one display, have the option of installing any combination of up to three 10.6-inch or 7-inch G3X Touch displays. Seamless integration between multiple displays gives pilots a variety of options as well as easier access to more information in the cockpit. Incorporating multiple G3X Touch displays into one panel, offers added redundancy and enhanced functionality. When paired with a 10.6-inch display, the 7-inch G3X Touch system can serve as a dedicated display for a variety of features including traffic awareness, full-screen moving map, geo-referenced charts, engine information and even serve as a back-up primary flight display (PFD). Pilots are offered the most comprehensive lineup of integration potential with G3X Touch, including the opportunity to incorporate an IFR navigator such as the GTN, angle of attack information with the GI-260 and an active traffic system. G3X Touch supports additional connectivity with VIRB, Garmin's HD action camera, which uses an easy-access BNC composite video connection. Viewing live, full-screen video on the G3X Touch display is possible when integrating VIRB, which also allows pilots to start and stop video recording and take photos from the touchscreen. Additionally, touchscreen control of Garmin's industry-leading experimental autopilot is available, while still supporting the optional stand-alone GMC 305 autopilot control panel. Further touchscreen control of the remote-mounted GTX 23 ES transponder and GTR 20 remote com radio saves panel space and offers a simple and integrated cockpit. Synthetic vision (SVX) comes standard on G3X Touch, providing a rich, three-dimensional depiction of terrain, obstacles, water features, the runway environment and more. VFR Sectionals, IFR Enroute Charts, geo-referenced SafeTaxi airport diagrams and FliteCharts terminal procedures for the US, Europe and Canada are offered on all G3X Touch displays, providing pilots with the charts they need for both VFR and IFR flight. A version of G3X Touch offers access to SiriusXM satellite radio and SiriusXM Aviation weather, including weather products such as NEXRAD, METARs, TAFs, TFRs, winds aloft and more (SiriusXM subscription required).
