General Electric Not Planning To Sell Any Other Australian Business

General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) is not planning to sell any other Australian businesses, John Rice Head of global operations said. “We have no plans to exit any other Australian businesses, although we’re always looking at the right mix for the portfolio,” John Rice added.

GE Provides Golden Valley Electric Association's Healy Power Plant with Mobile Water Filtration System

GE announced it will commission a reverse osmosis (RO) mobile water filtration system at the Golden Valley Electric Association (GVEA) coal-fired power plant in Healy, Alaska. The GE system will provide the plant with clean water during a planned outage to upgrade the plant's water treatment system and environmental controls and facilitate the start up of Unit 2. The total power output of the facility once Unit 2 is online will be 80 megawatts. The two-unit station is located approximately 300 miles south of the Arctic Circle. The GVEA Healy plant will require GE's mobile water filtration system for approximately 90 days while work is being completed. The Healy power plant is located in the Alaskan Interior, which is an area known for harsh weather conditions and logistical challenges. The mobile water treatment system includes a trailer containing various filter vessels and a 100 gallon-per-minute RO unit. The product water from the RO system will be further purified by ion-exchange tanks to attain the quality necessary for boiler feedwater at the plant. To minimize replacement of the ion-exchange tanks, the RO system was upgraded to include an internal product water recycling system. GVEA's mission is to provide its member-owners with quality electric service, quality customer service and innovative energy solutions at fair and reasonable prices. The cooperative operates and maintains 3,177 miles of transmission and distribution lines and 34 substations. GVEA's system is interconnected with Fort Wainwright, Eielson Air Force Base, Fort Greely, the University of Alaska-Fairbanks and all electric utilities in the Alaska Railbelt, which extends from Homer to Fairbanks.

GE’S Critical Power Business Introduces its New GP100 Line of Power Rectifiers

GE’s Critical Power business introduced its new GP100 line of power rectifiers, providing data- and power-intensive three-phase applications with the industry’s first compact, 1U1, 6-kilowatt (kW) 54-volt AC-to-DC power rectifiers. The new GP100 line includes GE’s GP100R compact, module for data center and telecommunications rack or cabinet mounting and its GP100M for embedded data, networking and industrial power supply solutions. Ideal for high-density data and communications settings, the new GP100 AC-to-DC rectifiers feature a power capacity of 6 kW and take up less than half of the space required to install similar products—enabling two GP100s to be mounted together in 1U of rack space. This combination of power capacity and reduced footprint enables GE to provide power density of 12 kW per 1U, making the GP100 the high density three-phase power supply available. The GP100 rectifiers also can be paralleled into packaged systems ranging from 12 kW to 432 kW, providing efficient power to high-density and high-capacity applications such as 48-kW power bays and cabinets. This enables these applications to implement three-phase power supplies instead of being limited to less-efficient, single-phase options due to space requirements. With an energy conversion efficiency level of up to 96.5%, the GP100 line provides benefits of both operational cost savings and improved total cost of ownership. The new rectifier product line also helps eliminate potential single-phase balancing issues as power requirements grow by ensuring that electrical phases grow in equal increments. The new GP100 rectifiers were developed using FastWorks methodologies, a set of tools and principles that integrate external thinking and discussion into the design process, bringing the products to market faster than previously possible. Using FastWorks, GE was able to take feedback from customers regarding their power needs and their space limitations and directly apply it to the design of its new rectifiers.
