GAM Holding AG Reports Earnings Results for the First Half Ended June 30, 2015

GAM Holding AG reported earnings results for the first half ended June 30, 2015. Underlying net profit for the first half of 2015 was CHF 81.2 million, a decline of 3% compared to the second half of 2014 and of 13% from the first half of 2014. Operating income for the first half of 2015 totalled CHF 303.6 million, compared to CHF 316.1 million in the second half of 2014. This reflects a decline in net fee and commission income and in 'other operating income'. Basic earnings per share remained unchanged from the second half of 2014, at CHF 0.51, as the reduction in the number of shares outstanding through the group's buy-back activity compensated for the shortfall in profitability. Return on tangible equity was 34.5% compared to 30.3% in the previous six months, with a decline in tan gible equity more than offsetting the profit decrease. Underlying pretax profit was down by only 2% or CHF 2.1 million from the second half 2014. Underlying pretax profit was down by only 2% or CHF 2.1 million from the second half 2014. Underlying net profit was down CHF 2.9 million or 3% as the company have been accruing tax expenses at a slightly higher rate as a result of slight shift in the geographic composition of profits. The IFRS net profit figure for the period amounted to CHF 80.9 million. This represents an increase of CHF 2.7 million or 3.5% compared with the second half of 2014. The increase is explained by the fact that in the second half 2014, the company's IFRS results included the debit of CHF 5.9 million, resulting from the remeasurement of the deferred purchase price liability for the Arkos acquisition. Earnings per share in first half of 2015 were flat compared with the second half of 2014 as the modest profit reduction was fully compensated by share buybacks and resulting lower share count.
