Return on average shareholders' equity (tangible) was 9.83% compared with 10.30% a year ago. The decrease in earnings reflected a decrease in net interest income, a $5.9 million increase in loan loss provision and a decrease in securities gains partially offset by the increase in noninterest income. For the six months, the company's net interest income was $246.5 million compared with $257.5 million a year ago. Income before was income taxes was $102.4 million compared with $109.1 million a year ago. The company announced net loans charged off of $12.4 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2015 compared to $9.06 million a year ago. The increase in net charge-offs was mainly in commercial loans and was primarily due to two customer relationships that were placed on non-accrual status in the first quarter of 2015. With respect to its net interest margin, the company anticipates that it will experience margin compression of 5 to 8 basis points over the remainder of 2015. The original outlook for 2015 for the growth rate in noninterest income was in the mid- to high single-digit range. The company expects its effective tax rate to continue at this level for the remainder of 2015.
