Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. Wins Contract to Develop Next-Generation Utility Helicopter (UH-X) for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. concluded a contract with the Ministry of Defense for the initial project of developing a prototype of the next-generation utility helicopter (UH-X) for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). FHI will co-develop with Bell Helicopter Textron Inc. an advanced variant of the 412EPI, the latest model of the Bell 412 series with proven reliability and versatility which is used in search and rescue missions. Tentatively named the Fuji-Bell 412+, the co-developed helicopter will constitute a platform for the UH-X for the JGSDF. FHI plans to make maximum use of its original technologies, including metal surface treatment technologies as well as highly efficient production technologies built up in the course of mass-producing civilian aircraft.

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. Reports Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ending March 31, 2016; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Fiscal Year 2016

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. reported consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ending March 31, 2016. For the quarter, consolidated net sales rose 29.0% to JPY 765.3 billion due to unit sales growth, foreign exchange gains and other factors. As increases in SG&A and R&D expenses were offset by exchange rate gains, unit sales growth, cost reduction progress and other factors, operating income rose 70.5% to JPY 134.2 billion. Ordinary income grew 61.4% to JPY 130.1 billion and net income attributable to owners of parent increased 61.1% to JPY 84.2 billion. Operating income during the period surged 70.5% year on year to JPY 134.2 billion. The company provided earnings guidance for the fiscal year 2016. For the year, the company expects net sales of JPY 3,030 billion, operating income of JPY 503 billion, ordinary income of JPY 495 billion and net income attributable to owners of parent of JPY 337 billion.

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. Signs a Formal Agreement with Boeing on Development and Production of Boeings New 777X Airplane

Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. and four other Japanese aerospace companies, together with Japan Aircraft Development Corporation (JADC), signed a formal agreement with Boeing on their participation in the development and production of Boeings new 777X airplane. This agreement was drawn up by adding terms and conditions to the 2014 memorandum of agreement between Boeing, the five Japanese aerospace companies, and JADC. The 777X, as the successor to the 777 series of large-size twin-engine passenger jets, includes the 777-8X and 777-9X models. Boeing says production is set to begin in 2017, with first delivery targeted for 2020. As with the existing 777, FHI will be responsible for center wing section, integration of the center wing section with the main landing gear wheel wells, main landing gear doors, and wing-to-body fairings (forward). FHI is currently gearing up for production at its Utsunomiya Plant (Utsunomiya City, Tochigi Prefecture) and Handa Plant (Handa City, Aichi Prefecture). At the Handa Plant, a new assembly facility is under construction for producing the center wing section of the 777X.
