Federal Signal Corporation designs, manufactures, and sells a suite of products and integrated solutions primarily in the United States, Europe, and Canada. The company operates in three segments: Environmental Solutions, Safety and Security Systems, and Fire Rescue. The Environmental Solutions segment manufactures various self-propelled street cleaning vehicles, vacuum loader vehicles, municipal catch basin/sewer cleaning vacuum trucks, and water blasting equipment; sells parts and tooling; rents equipment; and provides service, repair, and training. This segment sells its products under the Elgin, Vactor, Guzzler, and Jetstream brands primarily to municipal and government customers, and industrial contractors. The Safety and Security Systems segment manufactures and supplies systems and products for law enforcement, fire rescue, emergency medical services, campuses, military facilities, and industrial sites to protect people and property. It offers systems for campus and community alerting, emergency vehicles, first responder interoperable communications, industrial communications, and command and municipal networked security; and vehicle light bars and sirens, public warning sirens, and public safety software. This segment sells its products primarily under the Federal Signal, Federal Signal VAMA, Target Tech, and Victor brands. The Fire Rescue segment manufactures articulated and telescopic aerial platforms for fire fighting, rescue, electric utility, and industrial uses. It also sells parts; and provides service and training. This segment sells its products under the Bronto Skylift brand to municipal and industrial fire services, civil defense authorities, rental companies, electric utilities, and industrial customers. The company sells its products through dealers, direct sales, and wholesalers/distributors, as well as independent foreign distributors. Federal Signal Corporation was founded in 1901 and is headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Federal Signal Corp. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company's net sales were $264.4 million, up 20% versus $219.6 million in the same quarter a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $23.2 million, equal to $0.36 per diluted share, compared to $26.7 million, or $0.42 per share, in the prior-year quarter. Operating income was $31.0 million compared to $21.5 million in the prior year. Net income was $23.8 million compared to $27.1 million for the same period a year ago. Diluted net earnings per share were $0.37 compared to $0.42 for the same period a year ago. Adjusted income before income taxes was $29.1 million or $0.45 per share compared to $21.5 million or $0.34 per share a year ago. Adjusted net income from continuing operations for the fourth quarter of $19.3 million, equal to $0.30 per diluted share, up 32% compared to $14.6 million, or $0.23 per diluted share, in the same quarter a year ago. For the year, the company's net sales were $918.5 million, up 8% compared to $851.3 million in the prior year. Income from continuing operations for the year was $63.0 million, equal to $0.99 per diluted share, compared to $160.2 million, or $2.53 per share, in the prior year. For the full year, adjusted net income from continuing operations was $59.1 million, equal to $0.93 per diluted share, an increase of 40% compared to $42.3 million, or $0.67 per diluted share, in the prior year. Consolidated full year operating income was $92.6 million, up 31% compared to $70.6 million in the prior year. Net income was $63.7 million compared to $160.0 million for the same period a year ago. Diluted net earnings per share were $1.00 compared to $2.53 for the same period a year ago. Net cash provided by continuing operating activities was $72.2 million compared to $80.3 million for the same period a year ago. Purchases of properties and equipment were $19.5 million compared to $17.0 million for the same period a year ago. Adjusted income before income taxes $87.3 million or $1.37 per share compared to $62.4 million or $0.99 per share a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $107.6 million compared to $84.8 million for the same period a year ago. Net debt at December 31, 2014 was down significantly, to $20 million at the end of the year, compared to $40 million at the end of the third quarter and $68 million a year ago. For the year 2015, the company is cautiously optimistic and is targeting adjusted EPS between $0.95 and $1.02, which represents an improvement over 2014 adjusted EPS of $0.93.
