focus ventures ltd (FCV) Key Developments

Focus Ventures Ltd. Initiates Phase 2 Drilling at Bayovar 12 Phosphate Project, Peru

Focus Ventures Ltd. announced that its Phase 2 drill program has commenced at the Bayovar 12 phosphate project in northern Peru. Approximately 40 vertical diamond drill holes will be drilled mainly in the eastern part of the original drill grid where the horizontal phosphate beds are closest to surface (for drill location map click link here). The main objective of the program is to increase the confidence category of the existing Inferred and Indicated Resources to Measured category, and expand the resource in the area of least cover in the eastern end of the drill grid. An updated NI 43-101 compliant mineral resource estimate will be incorporated into the Preliminary Economic Assessment study currently underway by a consortium of engineering companies. The drilling will expand the drill grid to an area approximately 6.4km x 4km (2,500 hectares) within the western end of the 12,575 hectare concession, targeting phosphate beds within the lower part of the Diana Formation, a package of phosphate-bearing diatomites some 35 - 40m thick that are consistent in grade and continuous over long distances. These phosphate units are currently being mined at the Bayovar Mine, a joint venture between Vale, Mosaic and Mitsui, one of the biggest phosphate deposits in South America. The operation is located about 15km to the west of Bayovar 12.

Focus Ventures Ltd. Announces Arrangement of a Credit Facility

Focus Ventures Ltd. reported on several transactions that will allow it to purchase 70% of Juan Paulo Quay S.A.C., the title holder of the Bayovar 12 concession in Peru, and provide immediate funding for its ongoing operations including the Preliminary Economic Assessment study. In order to provide funding for the purchase of the Bayovar Interest and for further advancement of the Bayovar 12 Project, the company has executed a Term Sheet with Sprott Resource Lending Partnership (lender), in respect of a $5.0 million secured loan facility. The facility is subject to a number of conditions, including among other things completion of non-technical due diligence, completion of loan documentation, approval by the Lender's partners, and approval by the TSX Venture Exchange. Focus and the lender are targeting satisfaction of the conditions precedent and first draw down of the Facility on or about 25 March, 2015. Key terms of the facility are: Facility amount of $5.0 million, with an interest rate of 12% per annum; Facility to be repaid by September 30, 2016; Repayable prior to maturity, in full or in part, at the option of Focus, provided a minimum of 6 months of interest has been paid; and structuring fee of $75,000 cash, a drawdown fee equal to 2.5% of the amount drawn, and a commitment fee of 1,250,000 warrants to purchase shares of Focus exercisable for five years at a 30% premium to market.

Focus Ventures Ltd. Provides Update on Bayovar 12 Phosphate Project in Northern Peru

Focus Ventures Ltd. provided an update on recent progress from the Bayovar 12 phosphate project in northern Peru, including preliminary results of bench scale metallurgical testwork. All phosphate beds can be simply processed via washing and flotation; no milling or grinding is required. Each bed produced a high quality phosphate concentrate averaging 29 - 30% P2O5 with low impurity levels which means that they can be readily acidulated and converted to high analysis fertilizers such as DAP and MAP. All beds respond in a similar manner, resulting in a single, versatile flowsheet that will simplify both mining and beneficiation. Low levels of minor compounds MgO and FeO, along with low MER and CaO/P2O5 ratios, will render the Bayovar 12 suitable for use in producing phosphoric acid and high analysis fertilizers such as DAP and MAP. Metallurgical Testwork: Bench scale metallurgical testwork, by Jacobs Engineering Laboratories in Florida, is near completion. The objective of the work is a preliminary process design to produce a circa 29-30% P2O5 concentrate from Bayovar 12 rock. These test results indicate that the objective will be met with a single, simple process line. Approximately 180kg of drill core taken from three special PQ diameter drill holes representing 13 phosphate beds plus samples of interburden was received by Jacobs in October 2014. Samples from each bed underwent a staged-process test work program comprising drum and attrition scrubbing, desliming, bulk density and specific gravity measurements, size fraction and liberation analysis, formal flotation and P2O5 concentrate characterization. The desired phosphate mineral, called apatite, exists as small pellets. The first stage of the testing establishes a particle size, or "cut point" below which the material contains an optimally low fraction of the pellets and can therefore be discarded. This particle size diameter was determined to be 270 mesh (#), or 53 microns (um) and is termed "slimes". Most of the undesired ore contaminants are contained in slimes and are removed by the desliming process.
