fairchild semiconductor inte (FCS) Details

Fairchild Semiconductor International, Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, and markets power analog, power discrete, and non-power semiconductor solutions worldwide. It operates through three segments: Mobile, Computing, Consumer, and Communication (MCCC); Power Conversion, Industrial, and Automotive (PCIA); and Standard Discrete and Standard Linear (SDT). The MCCC segment offers analog components, mixed signal integrated circuits (ICs), and low voltage power metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) for mobile, consumer, computing, and communication applications; signal path products, such as analog and digital switches, USB switches, video filters, and audio amplifiers; and packaging solutions include surface mount devices, tiny packages, chip scale packages, and leadless carriers. Its analog products monitor, interpret, and control variable functions comprising light, color, sound, and energy. The PCIA segment provides analog and mixed signal ICs, multi-chip smart power modules, and discrete power products. Its analog and mixed signal ICs are used to control discrete semiconductors in applications, including power switching, conditioning, signal amplification, power distribution, and power consumption. The SDT segment offers a range of semiconductor products, such as MOSFET, junction field effect transistors, high power bipolar, discrete small signal transistors, Zener diodes, rectifiers, bridge rectifiers, Schottky devices, and diodes; bipolar regulators, shunt regulators, low drop out regulators, standard op-amp/comparators, low voltage op-amps, and others; and infrared products. The company’s products are used in mobile, industrial, appliance, automotive, consumer electronics, and computing markets applications. It sells its products to distributors, original equipment manufacturers, and electronic design and manufacturing services customers. The company was founded in 1959 and is headquartered in San Jose, California.

Fairchild Expands Line of Extended Temperature (ET) Mid-Voltage MOSFETs, Which Can Operate at 175° C

Fairchild is enabling manufacturers to improve the reliability and performance of their products with its expanded line of extended temperature (ET) mid-voltage MOSFETs, which can operate at 175° C. The higher operating temperatures enable up to 85% greater power density and three times more reliability than MOSFETs rated to the 150° C industry standard. This new family of ET MOSFETs aligns with the IPC-9592 power conversion standard, which means the maximum junction temperature can be up to 150° C, as opposed to 125° C for standard 150° C MOSFETs, to enable more design margin. The family includes 19 new devices, available in both 5mm x 6mm and 3mm x 3mm standard packages, as well as the new TO-Leadless (TO-LL) package. The devices are offered in a wide range of voltage ratings, including 30V, 40V, 60V, 80V, 100V, 120V and 150V. Their outstanding combination of superior heat tolerance, greater power density and improved reliability make Fairchild™s ET MOSFET family ideal for DC-to-DC power supplies, AC-to-DC power supplies and motor drives used in a variety of applications, including avionics, micro solar inverters, power tools and telecommunications. The ability to operate at 175° C makes these new ET MOSFETs particularly suited for products that must operate in high ambient temperatures, such as solar power and power-over-Ethernet (POE) applications. Additionally, the substantially greater reliability of the devices is an advantage for products used in harsh environments, including avionics, railway and power tool applications. Complementing the extended temperature range, the higher power density in very small packages is a key advantage as it gives manufacturers greater flexibility with their product designs. It allows designers to either decrease the form factors of their products " while maintaining the same power output" or to increase the power output without having to increase size. Fairchild is exhibiting in booth 905 at APEC 2015 in Charlotte North Carolina, from March 16 to 19.

Fairchild Introduces its 800V SuperFET II MOSFET Family

Fairchild introduced its 800V SuperFET II MOSFET family, featuring broad package offerings and the industry’s lowest on-resistance (Rdson) and output capacitance (Coss). The new family enables designers to improve the efficiency, cost-effectiveness and reliability of high performance solutions requiring breakdown voltage higher than 600V /650V, and also reduces the board space of these designs by enabling the elimination of components. The best-in-class reliability of the 800V SuperFET II MOSFET family, coupled with its excellent efficiency and thermal characteristics, makes it ideal for a variety of applications. Meanwhile, its broad range of package options gives designers tremendous flexibility, particularly with size constrained designs. Key applications for the family include LED lighting, power supplies for LED televisions and home theater audio equipment, power adapters, servers, industrial power and auxiliary power supplies, as well as micro solar inverters. Fairchild’s 800V SuperFET II MOSFET family is comprised of 26 devices covering a Rdson range of 4.3 Ohm to an industry low of 60 mOhm, all offered in a wide range of standard package options, giving designers greater choice and flexibility in employing the best device for their specific application.

Fairchild Announces the Availability of its Next Generation PowerTrench® MOSFETs for Automotive Applications

Fairchild announced the availability of its next generation PowerTrench® MOSFETs for automotive applications in the high-power TO-Leadless (TO-LL) package JEDEC MO-299). The innovative TO-LL technology offers an extremely low package resistance, a very small footprint, and allows for exceptionally good EMI behavior. Typical automotive power electronics applications for the TO-LL packaged devices include battery management for electric and hybrid-electric vehicles, battery safety switches, start-stop systems, as well as motor drives for EPS (electric power steering) and active rectification alternators. Fairchild offers devices optimized for traditional 12V battery systems as well as solutions supporting new board-net architectures, such as 48V. Highest efficiency, smaller, attractive system cost: At just 2.3 x 9.8 x 10.38mm, the TO-LL package is about 30% smaller compared to a D2PAK (TO263) package and supports up to 300A current handling capabilities. The TOLL is almost half the height, which makes it ideal for many automotive applications where space is usually tight. The combination of Fairchild’s latest PowerTrench shielded gate trench technology with the TO-LL package gives Fairchild’s leadless MOSFET products their extremely low RDS(on) ranges. Both the superior silicon technology as well as the package design result in excellent switching and EMI performance, which is particularly beneficial for switching and PWM controlled applications in particular and has been verified by early customers of the devices. At the same time, it simplifies design, avoids additional passive components and overall enables electronic manufacturers to better serve the markets for high-current applications. Compared to other discrete packages, the number of parallel MOSFETs needed in high-current applications can be significantly reduced, if not eliminated, leading to overall lower system costs. Fairchild’s TO-LL portfolio now includes 40V, 60V, 80V as well as 150V ratings and will extend to 100V types over the coming months. The TO-LL package features very low package parasitic compared to a D2PAK (TO263) package. Its inductances are only half the amount and the package resistance is only 40%. Unlike many other leadless packages, the TO-LL allows for automated optical inspection (AOI) due to its tin-plated lead tips. AOI is often a must for Surface Mount Technology (SMT) production lines as it supports low inspection cost compared to X-ray systems.
