Fastenal Company, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the wholesale distribution of industrial and construction supplies in the United States, Canada, and internationally. The company offers fasteners, and other industrial and construction supplies primarily under the Fastenal name. Its fastener products include threaded fasteners, such as bolts, nuts, screws, studs, and related washers, which are used in manufactured products and building projects, as well as in the maintenance and repair of machines and structures. The company also offers miscellaneous supplies and hardware, including various pins and machinery keys, concrete anchors, metal framing systems, wire ropes, strut products, rivets, and related accessories. It serves the manufacturing market comprising original equipment manufacturers, and maintenance and repair operations; and non-residential construction market, which include general, electrical, plumbing, sheet metal, and road contractors. The company also serves farmers, truckers, railroads, mining companies, schools, and retail trades; and oil exploration, production, and refinement companies, as well as federal, state, and local governmental entities. Fastenal Company distributes its products through a network of approximately 2,700 company owned stores. The company was founded in 1967 and is headquartered in Winona, Minnesota.

Fastenal Company reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $953,317,000 compared to $876,501,000 a year ago. Operating income was $203,771,000 compared to $178,851,000 a year ago. Earnings before income taxes were $203,512,000 compared to $178,845,000 a year ago. Net earnings were $127,606,000 or $0.43 per basic and diluted share compared to $111,931,000 or $0.38 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $180,105,000 compared to $143,298,000 a year ago. Purchases of property and equipment were $43,922,000 compared to $32,564,000 a year ago. The increase in net sales in the periods noted for 2015 and 2014 came primarily from higher unit sales. Net sales were impacted by slight inflationary price changes in non-fastener products and some price deflation in fastener products, but the net impact was a drag on growth.
