It owns electric generating facilities, such as nuclear, fossil, and hydroelectric generation facilities, as well as wind and solar photovoltaic facilities. The company also sells renewable energy and other energy-related products and services; and engages in the natural gas and oil exploration and production activities, as well as sells electricity and natural gas to wholesale and retail customers. In addition, it engages in the purchase and regulated retail sale of electricity, and the provision of electricity transmission and distribution services to retail customers in northern Illinois, southeastern Pennsylvania, and central Maryland. Further, the company is involved in the purchase and regulated retail sale of natural gas, and the provision of gas distribution services to retail customers in the Pennsylvania counties surrounding the City of Philadelphia, as well as in central Maryland, including the City of Baltimore. It serves distribution utilities, municipalities, cooperatives, and financial institutions, as well as commercial, industrial, governmental, and residential customers. The company was founded in 1887 and is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois.

Exelon Corporation reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the three months ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported operating revenues of $8,830 million against $7,237 million a year ago. Operating income was $1,366 million against $168 million a year ago. Income before income taxes was $1,101 million against $39 million a year ago. Net income attributable to common shareholders was $693 million or $0.80 per basic and diluted share against $90 million or $0.10 per basic and diluted share a year ago. Net cash flows provided by operating activities was &1,490 million against $165 million a year ago. Capital expenditures were $1,784 million against $1,217 million a year ago. Adjusted (non-GAAP) operating earnings increased to net income of $615 million or $0.71 per share from net income of $530 million or $0.62 per share in the first quarter of 2014. For the second quarter, the company is providing guidance of $0.45 per share to $0.55 per share. This compares with the company's realized earnings of $0.51 per share in the second quarter of 2014. The company is reaffirming its full year guidance of $2.25 to $2.55 per share.
