Eaton's Lighting Solutions Enhance Aesthetics, Bring Control Capabilities and Reduce Energy Consumption

Eaton announced that its light-emitting diode lighting solutions with an Integrated Sensor Control System is enhancing the lighting performance and aesthetics at the Atlanta-based corporate headquarters of the Association of Energy Engineers. Choosing the Metalux SkyRidge LED luminaires for their unique appearance and ability for occupancy detection, daylight harvesting and personal control, the conversion has reduced the energy consumption by more than 68%. The new lighting system upgrade, which consists of a one-to-one replacement of older fluorescent fixtures, includes 47 Metalux SkyRidge luminaires featuring Wave Stream LED technology, each with a factory-installed Integrated Sensor Control System, offering granular control to the individual fixtures. The control system allows for occupancy sensing, which turns light off when the spaces are unoccupied; daylight harvesting that reduces light level when natural light enters the space and dimming capabilities, allowing users to set maximum light levels lower than full brightness. The system also provides personal control with hand-held remotes for employees to dim their personal lighting to their preferred setting. The fixtures also feature the SkyTrim, a luminous decorative accent color that is mounted directly on the light guide of a SkyRidge LED luminaires, emphasizing the AEE's blue brand identity.

Eaton to Lay Off Remaining 37 at Charlotte Clutch-Assembly Facility by November 25, 2015

Eaton will lay off the remaining 37 workers at its north Charlotte clutch-assembly facility at the end of November 2015. The closure internally last year, and the company originally planned to keep 27 of the affected 84 workers on at the 5808 Long Creek Park Drive facility through the end of 2015 to wrap up operations. The facility ended up keeping 37 workers to assemble electronic control actuators, which go into commercial vehicle transmissions. Eaton filed a (WARN) with the N.C. Commerce Department this week indicating the effective date for the layoffs is November 25, the day the facility will close. Companies must file the notices when they make mass layoffs and close plants.

Eaton Introduces Versatile Branch Line Restraint System for Increased Reliability and Safety

Eaton announced the launch of its latest B-Line series TOLCO Branch Line Restraint (BLR) system. The system is designed to help prevent the movement and damage of fire sprinkler branch lines during earthquakes that may harm the structure or nearby non-structural systems. The TOLCO BLR structural and pipe attachments are Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listed and Factory Mutual (FM) approved for both steel and plastic chlorinated polyvinyl chloride (CPVC) sprinkler systems. These systems can be used in all commercial applications, including hospitals, government facilities, airports and office complexes. Earthquakes occur without warning, and customers depend on seismic bracing and other preventive systems to help protect lives and help prevent costly damages that can occur, said Greg Shaughnessy, product line manager, TOLCO Seismic Bracing, Eatons B-Line Division. By installing the complete system with branch line restraints per NFPA 13 requirements, the solution is designed to help keep fire sprinkler systems operational after an earthquake. The exclusive features of the BLR system offer an easy-to-install, adaptable and dependable bracing solution. The BLRs unique design allows an installer to completely pre-assemble the system or move a completed assembly from one location to another without tools or disassembly. The innovative snap-on design allows it to be installed with one hand, yet is sturdy enough to hold the load.
