Its product range covers various areas of urban construction from supporting structures to interior design and environmental construction. The company’s Renewable Packaging segment produces fiber-based packaging materials and packaging solutions for consumer goods and industrial applications. This segment’s consumer board product range covers various categories and end-uses, such as liquid packaging, cigarette, graphical, and general packaging boards for packaging cosmetics and luxury products, chocolate and confectionery, pharmaceuticals, and food; and packaging solutions products include corrugated packaging for consumer and transport packages, containerboard, paper sacks, and sack and kraft papers. Its Other segment supplies wood to the Nordic mills. Stora Enso Oyj is headquartered in Helsinki, Finland.

Stora Enso Oyj Reports Impairments Charges for the Fourth Quarter of 2014

Stora Enso will record non-recurring items (NRI) with a negative net impact of approximately EUR 225 million on operating profit and a positive impact of approximately EUR 53 million on income tax in its fourth quarter of 2014 results. The NRI will decrease earnings per share by EUR 0.22. The NRIs are: a negative NRI of approximately EUR 204 million due to fixed asset impairments mainly in Printing and Reading. The impairments are due to further weakened long-term earnings expectations resulting from decline in the European paper markets; a negative NRI in Printing and Reading of approximately EUR 30 million due to fixed asset impairments and inventory write-downs related to the earlier announced, ongoing disposal of Uetersen Mill in Germany. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval process and estimated to be completed during the first quarter of 2015; a positive NRI in Renewable Packaging of approximately EUR 9 million due to the earlier announced disposal of the Corenso business operations. The disposal was completed on December 1, 2014. The impairment charges taken in the fourth quarter of 2014 reduce quarterly depreciations by EUR 7 million starting from fourth quarter of 2014.

Noel Morrin held several leadership positions in the field of sustainability and environmental affairs, most recently, since 2005, as SVP for Sustainability & Green Support at Skanska in Sweden. Before that he worked as Group Environment Director for the RMC Group.

Saveri & Saveri, Inc. and Trump, Alioto & Prescott LLP Announce Class Action Settlement against Stora Enso North America Corporation, Stora Enso Oyj and UPM-Kymmene Corporation

Saveri & Saveri Inc. and Trump, Alioto & Prescott LLP announced that rights may be affected by class action lawsuits entitled The Harman Press v. International Paper Co., et al., San Francisco Superior Court Case No. CGC-04-432167. The Court has preliminarily approved a settlement agreement between Plaintiffs and defendants Stora Enso North America Corporation, n/k/a NewPage Wisconsin System Inc. and Stora Enso Oyj and has scheduled a hearing to consider the fairness, adequacy, and reasonableness of the proposed settlement. If the Court grants final approval to the settlement, all named defendants will have settled and the litigation will be concluded. Plaintiffs, on behalf of themselves and all other similarly situated persons and entities in the State of California, allege that Settling Defendants and UPM-Kymmene Corporation have unlawfully conspired to fix, raise, maintain, or stabilize the price of Publication Paper, and that such conduct violates the antitrust and/or consumer protection laws of California. Defendants deny liability. Persons who resided in California and all entities which had a place of business in California as of November 21, 2014, whether or not a resident of or a business located in California at the time of purchase, and, at any time during the period June 8, 2000 up to and including January 29, 2014, indirectly purchased in the State of California, Publication Paper from any of the Defendants are in the Settlement Class. In exchange for the release of claims by the Settlement Class, SEO has agreed to pay $125,000. The Settlement Amount plus interest is the Settlement Fund. In addition, SEO has agreed to pay into the Settlement Fund an amount equal to one-half the cost of the expenses of providing notice of the settlement to the Class, up to a maximum total payment of $12,500. The Settlement Fund, plus $900,000 recovered in a prior settlement with UPM-Kymmene Corporation, is the Combined Settlement Fund.
