Emera Announces Consolidated Earnings Results for the Second Quarter and Six Months Ended June 30, 2015

Emera announced consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported operating revenues of CAD 537.0 million compared to CAD 566.6 million a year ago. The decrease was primarily due to mark-to-market changes and reduced revenue at the New England gas generating facilities and BLPC. The decrease was partially offset by increased revenues at Nova Scotia Power as a result of recovery of prior years’ fuel costs and load growth. Adjusted EBITDA was CAD 205.9 million compared to CAD 185.2 million a year ago. Net income attributable to common shareholders was CAD 10.0 million or CAD 0.07 per basic share compared to CAD 24.5 million or CAD 0.17 per basic share a year ago. Adjusted net income attributable to common shareholders was CAD 48.0 million or CAD 0.33 per basic share compared to CAD 44.2 million or CAD 0.31 per basic share a year ago. The increase in adjusted net income is primarily due to higher contributions from Emera Maine and the impact of a stronger U.S. dollar, partially offset by restructuring costs at Barbados Light & Power. For the six months, the company reported operating revenues of CAD 1,437.3 million compared to CAD 1,616.9 million a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was CAD 590.1 million compared to CAD 516.2 million a year ago. Net income attributable to common shareholders was CAD 170.1 million or CAD 1.17 per basic share compared to CAD 227.3 million or CAD 1.59 per basic share a year ago. Adjusted net income attributable to common shareholders was CAD 219.6 million or CAD 1.51 per basic share compared to CAD 190.8 million or CAD 1.34 per basic share a year ago. Cash flow from operations decreased 8.3% to CAD 376.0 million for the six months ending June 30, 2015 compared to the same period last year. The decrease was primarily due to lower trading and marketing margin, demand side management program costs deferred at NSPI and increased investment in non-cash working capital.
