Emera Incorporated, an energy and services company, through its subsidiaries, engages in the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity to various customers. The company is also involved in gas transmission and utility energy services businesses; and the provision of energy marketing, trading, and other energy-related management services. It has approximately 5,000 kilometers of transmission facilities and 27,000 kilometers of distribution facilities in Nova Scotia; approximately 1,600 kilometers of transmission facilities and 15,000 kilometers of distribution facilities in Maine; and 82 kilometers of transmission facilities and 1,743 kilometers of distribution facilities in the island of Barbados. In addition, it transports re-gasified liquefied natural gas to consumers in the northeastern United States through its 145-kilometre pipeline in New Brunswick. It serves residential customers comprising individual homes, apartments, and condominiums; and commercial customers, such as retail operations, offices, commercial complexes, universities, and hospitals, as well as industrial customers, which include manufacturing facilities and other large volume operations. The company serves approximately 504,000 customers in Nova Scotia; 155,000 customers in the state of Maine; and 126,000 customers in the island of Barbados. It provides regional energy solutions primarily in eastern Canada, the northeastern United States, and the Caribbean. Emera Incorporated was founded in 1919 and is headquartered in Halifax, Canada.

Emera Incorporated announced the applicable dividend rates for its Cumulative 5-Year Rate Reset First Preferred Shares, Series A and Cumulative Floating Rate First Preferred Shares, Series B, in each case, payable if, as and when declared by the Board of Directors of the company: 2.555% per annum on the Series A Shares ($0.1597 per Series A Share per quarter), being equal to the sum of the Government of Canada bond yield as at July 16, 2015, plus 1.84%, payable quarterly on the 15th of February, May, August and November of each year during the five-year period commencing on August 15, 2015 and ending on (and inclusive of) August 14, 2020; and 2.393% on the Series B Shares of the company for the three-month period commencing on August 15, 2015 and ending on (and inclusive of) November 14, 2015 ($0.1508 per Series B Share for the quarter), being equal to the sum of the three-month Government of Canada treasury bill yield rate as at July 16, 2015, plus 1.84% (calculated on the basis of the actual number of days elapsed during the quarter divided by 365), payable on the November 15, 2015.

Emera Maine Reports Consolidated Earnings Results for the First Quarter of 2015

Emera Maine reported consolidated earnings results for the first quarter of 2015. For the quarter, the company contributed $11.5 million to consolidated net income, an increase of $1.1 million compared to the first quarter last year. The higher net income was primarily from the impact of stronger U.S. dollar.
