ekinops (EKI) Details

Ekinops SA provides optical transport equipment for telecommunications service providers and private networks in France. It provides Ekinops 360, a carrier class optical transport platform designed for metro, regional, and long haul CWDM and DWDM networks. The company also offers 10G, 40G, and 100G carrier-grade solutions, including muxponders, transponders, optical/RAMAN amplifiers, filters, and optical protection units that facilitate the transmission, aggregation, and forward error correction capabilities allowing operators to enhance data transport capacity over dark fiber, CWDM, DWDM, SONET/SDH, IP/Ethernet, and storage area networks. In addition, it provides 10G to 100G transponders and distance extension solutions for long-haul fiber; and Ethernet over SONET/SDH solutions, which enable service providers to transparently interconnect multiple LANs over a SONET, SDH, fiber channel, or Ethernet network as they migrate to an all-IP network. Further, the company offers data center interconnect; wireless backhaul; residential triple play solution; data center solutions; low latency solutions; video transport solutions; storage area networks; and 10G LAN PHY to WAN PHY protocol converters. Additionally, it provides support and professional services, such as network design, installation, training, maintenance, and sparing services. The company was founded in 2003 and is based in Lannion, France.

ekinops (EKI) Key Developments

ER-Telecom to Cooperate with Humax, Kaon and Ekinops

ER-Telecom has signed cooperation deals with Humax and Kaon, as well as with Ekinops. The three companies will assemble telecom equipment for ER-Telecom. Production will take place in the Morion plant in Perm. Around RUB 4 billion will be invested into the three-year joint production, including RUB 300 million during the first year. Digital TV set-top boxes from Korean companies, as well as equipment for inter-city digital telecommunications links under the Ekinops brand will be produced there. Around 150 new jobs will be created at the Morion plant.

Ekinops Introduces Compact 200G Optical Transport Solution

Ekinops introduced its new 200G solution. Powerful, compact and with very low energy consumption, this 200G muxponder allows for a significant increase in capacity of optical transport networks to meet the needs of the Data Center Interconnect (DCI) market. Because energy consumption is one of the major concerns for data center operators and cloud service providers, the new Ekinops 200G solution was designed to be as energy efficient as possible. With a consumption of just under 130 watts per 200G, it is now the most energy efficient equipment available on the market. The Ekinops 200G muxponder is a leap forward for data center operators and cloud service providers, providing a powerful solution to capacity constraints and for interconnection of their data centers. Offering high capacity, flexibility, and interoperability with existing equipment, the Ekinops 200G muxponder is a plug-in card, compatible with existing 2RU or 7RU chassis which could already be equipped with 10G or 100G solutions. With its small footprint, it allows for significant upgrades, packing 2x200G in a 2RU space and 6x200G in a 7RU space. Extremely flexible, and compatible with 8G Fiber Channel or 10G, 40G, and 100G Ethernet ports, the new Ekinops 200G solution allows operators to use a single type of optical pluggable for all client configurations. It allows them to opt for a gradual ramp-up of their investment on a 'pay as you grow' basis. Due to its single channel interface, the Ekinops 200G muxponder allows 37.5 GHz channel spacing, so that it can deliver 128 x 200G channels in the C-band and therefore carry 25.6 Tbps per fiber. It is also compatible with 50GHz or 100GHz configurations. Moreover, due to its small footprint, 88 muxponders can be placed in a 44RU rack, bringing the total capacity to over 35 Tbps per rack. The Ekinops 200G muxponder uses 16QAM modulation and Ekinops coherent technology. It has a range of 160 kilometers (100 miles) without signal regeneration.

Ekinops Announces Wireless Fronthaul Solution

Ekinops introduced a fronthaul solution that addresses wireless service providers' urgent need to increase data capacity affordably and efficiently by taking fiber all the way to the base station. The Ekinops solution supports both passive and active architectures or mixed approaches, in which fronthaul and backhaul combine to enable unprecedented mobile RAN possibilities. Ekinops addresses the move to radio site densification, driven by data capacity needs, with its solution, as well as the need for several different radio frequencies being used at a given site, requiring more and more radio heads per site. The compact solution, with its low power requirements, is also designed to limit operational costs and to be installed quickly, improving mobile operators' time to market. Ekinops' passive CWDM and DWDM approach operates on a 1RU passive chassis that can hold various elements such as multiplexers and optical add/drop multiplexers (OADMs), enabling a vast range of multiplexing schemes in single or dual fiber configurations. The active DWDM approach focuses on Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) aggregation to allow the use of fewer fibers for greater efficiency in the optical portion of the network. This approach offers highly flexible multiplexing capability, with up to 10 aggregation and two line ports. This active solution is delivered through Ekinops C200HC-ETR chassis. Addressing radio sites of different capacities, the Ekinops solution is industrial temperature range capable, from -40°C to 85°C. It supports a broad range of client interface and line interface protocols. In a mixed fronthaul-backhaul scenario, it can transport legacy Ethernet backhaul traffic from already deployed base stations with Ethernet aggregating muxponders and transport fronthaul CPRI traffic. It also has a number of supervisory and management options. For mobile synchronization, the chassis' Sync-E port allows for carrying the frequency synchronization – required for 2G to 4G standards – in packet-based backhaul network. Advanced features also meet the synchronization requirements of other protocols.
