Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. – Eletrobrás, together with its subsidiaries, generates, transmits, and distributes electricity in Brazil. It projects, builds, and operates generating power plants, and electric power transmission and distribution lines. As of December 31, 2013, it owned and operated 33 hydroelectric plants; 124 thermal plants, including coal and oil power generation units with an installed capacity of 4,556 Megawatts (MW); and 2 nuclear power plants with an installed capacity of 1,990 MW. The company also operates 64,400 km of transmission lines and 6 power distributors that serve approximately 3.8 million consumers. In addition, it operates as an electricity trading agent. Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. – Eletrobrás was founded in 1962 and is headquartered in Brasília, Brazil.

Eletrobras Announces Consolidated and Parent Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2015

Eletrobras announced consolidated and parent earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, on parent basis, the company reported net operating income of BRL 803,581,000 against BRL 710,363,000 a year ago. Operating loss before financial result was BRL 775,938,000 against BRL 822,269,000 a year ago. Operating result before taxes was BRL 1,438,582,000 against BRL 1,075,696,000 a year ago. Net income for the period was BRL 1,255,247,000 or BRL 0.93 per share against BRL 1,033,759,000 or BRL 0.76 per share a year ago. Net cash used in operating activities was BRL 1,891,588,000 against net cash from operating activities of BRL 658,807,000 a year ago. Acquisition of property, plant and equipment was BRL 4,837,000 against BRL 31,000 a year ago. For the quarter, on consolidated basis, the company reported net operating income of BRL 8,598,882,000 against BRL 7,008,477,000 a year ago. Operating profit before financial result was BRL 877,027,000 against BRL 1,208,815,000 a year ago. Operating result before taxes was BRL 1,511,394,000 against BRL 1,345,586,000 a year ago. Net income for the period was BRL 1,113,611,000 or BRL 0.93 per share against BRL 1,040,809,000 or BRL 0.76 per share a year ago. Net cash from operating activities was BRL 1,066,453,000 against BRL 1,990,186,000 a year ago. Acquisition of property, plant and equipment was BRL 1,020,080,000 against BRL 289,897,000 a year ago. Acquisition of intangible assets was BRL 84,217,000 against BRL 86,490,000 a year ago. Acquisition of concession assets was BRL 919,077,000 against BRL 532,491,000 a year ago. EBITDA was BRL 1,381 million against BRL 1,685 million a year ago. Net debt was BRL 16,669 million as on March 31, 2015 against BRL 15,175 million as on March 31, 2014.

Eletrobras Workers Call 3-Day Strike

Workers at Eletrobras have begun a three-day strike over unpaid benefits. Workers were demanding their share of company profits owed from 2014. The company guaranteed that the stoppage would not impact essential services, adding that consumers would not be affected.

Eletrobras Power Distributors To Be Privatized, Says BTG

As per a survey from BTG Pactual states that seven electric power distribution companies of the state holding Centrais Elétricas Brasileiras S.A. - Eletrobras (BOVESPA:ELET6) slated for privatization. As per BTG reports Energisa S.A. (BOVESPA:ENGI3), Neoenergia SA and Enersis S.A. (SNSE:ENERSIS) are potential bidders for Eletrobras.
