Deltic Timber Corporation, a natural resources company, together with its subsidiaries, engages in the growing and harvesting of timber; and manufacturing and marketing of lumber and medium density fiberboards (MDF). The company’s Woodlands segment harvests pine and hardwood pulpwood for sale to third parties for use in the manufacture of paper products; and provides timberland management services, such as harvesting and thinning operations, reforestation, cull timber removal programs, and introducing seedlings. It also leases oil and gas, hunting land, and other rights on its timberlands; and provides harvest planning, silvicultural improvement, and maintenance works for timberlands owned by others under management contracts with one-year renewable terms. This segment owns approximately 530,000 of timberland in Arkansas and north Louisiana. Its Manufacturing segment operates two sawmills that manufacture and sell various softwood lumber products, such as dimension lumber, boards, and timbers to wholesale distributors, large retailers, lumber treaters, industrial accounts, and truss manufacturers, as well as used in residential construction, roof trusses, remanufactured products, laminated beams, cabinets, flooring, and door parts. This segment also produces wood chips, shavings, sawdust, and bark as by-products. In addition, the Manufacturing segment manufactures and markets MDF under the Solidium trade name for use in furniture, kitchen cabinets, laminate flooring, store fixtures, door parts, and moldings. This segment sells MDF to wholesalers, retailers, and manufacturers. The company’s Real Estate segment develops and markets residential lots for homebuilders and individuals; and commercial sites for developers and businesses, as well as sells undeveloped acreage. It also leases retail and office space to third parties; resells existing homes; and operates a country club. Deltic Timber Corporation was founded in 1996 and is based in El Dorado, Arkansas.

Deltic Timber Corporation announced preliminary and unaudited consolidated earnings and production results for the second quarter and six months ended June 30, 2015. Net income for the second quarter of 2015 was $0.83 million, $0.07 assuming dilution share which compares to results for the second quarter of 2014 of $5.3 million, $0.42 assuming dilution share. The decrease was primarily due to lower operating income from Deltic’s Manufacturing segment mainly as a result of soft markets for both lumber and medium density fiberboard during the second quarter of 2015. Net cash provided by operating activities was $5.4 million for 2015’s second quarter, compared to $11.1 million in the second quarter of 2014. Capital expenditures were $8.3 million compared to $3.3 million a year ago. Timberland acquisition expenditures were $0.5 million compared to $11.5 million a year ago. Net sales were $45,681,000 compared to $58,605,000 a year ago. Operating income was $2,933,000 compared to $9,734,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $1,284,000 compared to $8,157,000 a year ago. For the first six months of 2015, net income was $2.74 million, $0.22 assuming dilution share, compared to net income of $10.21 million, $0.80 assuming dilution share for the first six months of 2014. Net cash provided by operating activities was $14.6 million for the first half of 2015 compared to $14.84 million for the same period of 2014. Capital expenditures were $14 million compared to $6.5 million a year ago. Capital expenditures requiring cash, excluding real estate development were $13.102 million compared to $6.23 million a year ago. Timberland acquisition expenditures were $0.6 million compared to $118.1 million a year ago. Net sales were $94,060,000 compared to $113,984,000 a year ago. Operating income was $7,449,000 compared to $18,541,000 a year ago. Income before income taxes was $4,280,000 compared to $15,852,000 a year ago. The company harvested 120,459 tons of pine pulpwood, which compares to 2014’s second quarter harvest of 123,707 tons. The average per-ton sales price received for pine pulpwood in the second quarter of 2015 was $10, a 25% increase when compared to $8 per ton for the second quarter of 2014. The pine sawtimber harvest in the second quarter of 2015 was 189,480 tons, an 11% increase from the 170,737 tons harvested during the second quarter of 2014. The increase in the volume of pine sawtimber harvested was the planned benefit of strategic timberland acquisitions by the Company in recent years. For the first six months of 2015, the pine sawtimber harvest was 421,014 tons compared to 380,285 tons during the same period of 2014, while the average pine sawtimber sales price of $27 per ton increased $3 per ton from the prior-year period. The pine pulpwood harvest for the first six months of 2015 was 212,132 tons, at an average price of $10 per ton, compared to 232,716 tons at an average price of $8 per ton in the first six months of 2014. For the third quarter and year of 2015, the company currently anticipate the pine sawtimber harvest to be 220,000 to 250,000 tons and 725,000 to 765,000 tons, respectively. Finished lumber production and sales volume are estimated at 60 to 70 million board feet for the third quarter and 260 to 285 million board feet for the year. MDF sales volumes for the third quarter and year of 2015 are forecast to be 20 to 30 million square feet and 100 to 120 million square feet, respectively. Actual sales volumes for both finished lumber and MDF are dependent upon market conditions. Residential lot sales are projected to be 25 to 35 lots and 75 to 100 lots for the third quarter and year of 2015, respectively.
