cypress semiconductor corp (CYP) Key Developments

Cypress Semiconductor Corporation Introduces the TrueTouch® CYTT21X/31X Capacitive Touchscreen Controller Family

Cypress Semiconductor Corp. introduced the TrueTouch® CYTT21X/31X capacitive touchscreen controller family that enables smartphones, e-readers and low-cost tablets to offer multiple advanced features. The CYTT31X controller supports input from a passive stylus with a tip as fine as 2.5 mm, which is essential for writing in languages that require enhanced character recognition for reliable text input, such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese. The CYTT21X controller supports a face detection feature that prevents unintended touches from accidentally hanging up a call. This feature eliminates the need for infrared proximity sensors by using the touchscreen sensor to detect a face 25 mm away, thus cutting bill-of-material (BOM) costs. The TrueTouch CYTT21X/31X controllers enable ultra-thin smartphone and tablet form factors by leveraging Cypress's Single-Layer Independent Multi-touch (SLIM®) sensor structures, further reducing BOM costs. The controllers provide best-in-class accuracy and linearity for fingers of different sizes and gloves of various materials and thicknesses up to 5 mm, including ski gloves. In addition, they automatically switch between glove, stylus and finger tracking without requiring the user to switch settings. The family offers water rejection and wet finger tracking with best-in-class immunity to electronic noise generated by aftermarket chargers and displays. The CYTT21X/31X controllers include up to 48 IOs with an I2C interface, and up to 44-IOs with an I2C and SPI interface. Cypress is demonstrating its extensive portfolio of TrueTouch touchscreen solutions, its new TrueTouch Fingerprint Reader and its CapSense® touch-sensing solutions at Mobile World Congress 2015 from March 2-5 in Hall 2, Stand 2C26MR at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona. Cypress's TrueTouch CYTT21X/31X controllers deliver robust immunity to charger noise of up to 35V peak-to-peak (Vpp). The CYTT21X/31X controllers are based on a 32-bit ARM® Cortex™ M-Core processor that is known for high-efficiency MIPS/mW. With Cypress's unique and patented DualSense™ technology to execute both self-capacitance and mutual-capacitance measurements in the same device, TrueTouch solutions offer the industry's best water rejection and wet finger tracking for seamless performance in real-world conditions, including the presence of rain, condensation, or sweat. The TrueTouch CYTT21X/31X controllers are currently sampling, with production expected in the second quarter of 2015. The controllers are available in mobile-friendly 44-pin, 48-pin and 56-pin QFN packages.

Cypress Debuts Reliable, Secure Fingerprint Sensing Solution for Mobile Devices Through its Strategic Partnership with IDEX ASA

Cypress Semiconductor Corporation in conjunction with its strategic partner IDEX ASA introduced a fingerprint reader solution designed to bring reliable, easy-to-use user authentication to smart phones, tablets, wearable and other mobile devices. The TrueTouch Fingerprint Reader uses proprietary sensing circuitry and a unique touch sensor design to provide best-in-class fingerprint image quality and pattern matching accuracy improving security and delivering a superior user experience. The flexible solution enables designers to create custom home buttons with specialized shapes and sizes or to integrate the sensor into any mobile device's industrial design or home button. Consumers have increasingly embraced fingerprint readers as an alternative to keying in complex usernames, PINs and passwords. Mobile device OEMs and companies that sell via the Internet have gravitated toward the technology as the most secure way to validate a user's identity. Demand for fingerprint readers in mobile devices is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of 47% through 2019, reaching annual shipments of more than 700 million units. Cypress will showcase its TrueTouch Fingerprint Reader, along with its extensive portfolio of capacitive touchscreen and touch-sensing solutions, at Mobile World Congress 2015 from March 2-5 in Hall 2, Stand 2C26MR at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona. The TrueTouch Fingerprint Reader leverages IP from Oslo, Norway-based IDEX ASA. Cypress announced a strategic partnership with IDEX last year, enabling it to add IDEX's patented SmartFinger fingerprint sensing technology to its extensive portfolio of capacitive touch-sensing solutions. IDEX IP, plus the ability to work with IDEX's qualified sensor partners, will provide Cypress with immediate access to a broad range of global markets.
