Curtiss-Wright Introduces Single-Slot Victory Ethernet Switch and Vehicle Management Processor

Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced that its Defense Solutions division has introduced the first single-slot commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) module solution for integrating the essential networking elements needed to implement the U.S. Army’s VICTORY (Vehicular Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability) standard on legacy and future ground vehicles. The new VPX3-671 VICTORY Ethernet Switch and Single Board Computer (SBC) is a rugged 3U VPX module. It features a core subset of the advanced network switch and computing resources of Curtiss-Wright’s groundbreaking Digital Beachhead™ subsystem. The lightweight, compact VPX3-671 provides a line replaceable module (LRM) approach for implementing VICTORY, the U.S. Army’s mandated approach for modernizing ground vehicle networks, eliminating “stovepiped” system functionality, and increasing interoperability. Using the SWaP-C optimized VPX3-671, system integrators can quickly and cost-effectively embed the networking and vehicle management processing capabilities needed to modernize today’s tactical ground vehicles. The VPX3-671 delivers a fully-featured 12-port managed Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch that is tested to be compliant with the VICTORY specification as an Infrastructure Switch. It features a powerful set of networking features to implement high-speed advanced in-vehicle network architectures and supports connectivity for legacy 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps Ethernet devices, as well as today’s 1000 Mbps Ethernet systems. The VPX3-671 networking core supports a wide range of popular switching features, including support for IPv4/v6, VLANs, IGMP multicast, QoS, MSTP/RSTP, link aggregation, port mirroring, jumbo frames and static routing for WAN connectivity. Precision Time Protocol (IEEE-1588v2/PTP) is also supported, accurately synchronizing time between network nodes, and can be locked to a GPS time source to become a master clock. The VPX3-671’s 1.2 GHz Freescale™ Power Architecture® QorIQ™ Dual-core P2020-based general purpose SBC is optional and is installed as a mezzanine daughtercard. The SBC can be used to host VICTORY Services and to support customer developed applications such as vetronics control and Conditioned Based Maintenance data collection. In addition to efficiently implementing VICTORY architectures into tactical ground vehicles, the VPX3-671 is also ideal for use in any system application that requires a combined SWaP-C optimized Ethernet switch and general purpose SBC. The VPX3-671 comes completely integrated with all network management software. Software support for the Freescale SBC mezzanine includes Wind River® Linux® and VxWorks™ operating environments.

Curtiss-Wright Corporation Expands New Ultra Small Network Product Family with EMI-Protected 6-Port Ethernet Switch

Curtiss-Wright Corporation announced that its Defense Solutions division has introduced the newest addition to its family of ultra-small form factor (USFF) network switches, the Parvus® DuraNET® 20-12 6-port 10/100 Ethernet switch subsystem. Joining the recently announced 8-port DuraNET 20-11 GbE switch, this rugged, highly miniaturized and fully managed carrier-grade Layer 2/Layer 3 switch solution features a rugged rectangular connector with Quadrax contacts to ensure superior EMI immunity. This specialized connector ensures that other electronics are protected from electrical interference generated by the network switch, while also delivering optimal signal integrity for the switchâ s Ethernet signals. The units Quadrax connectors deliver 100 Ohm differential impedance matching for all Ethernet signals along with integrated EMI/power filtering. Power input voltage, spikes, surges, transients, and EMI/EMC compatibility is provided per MIL-STD-704F, MIL-STD-1275D, and MIL-STD-461F for use in both aircraft and ground vehicle installations. The DuraNET 20-12 is designed to provide optimal performance in deployed defense, aerospace, and civil ground vehicle and aircraft platforms that require extremely low size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C). Both the DuraNET 20-12 and the earlier announced DuraNET 20-11, which differs in that it features circular MIL-DTL-39999-like connectors instead of Quadrax connectors, combine a stacked PCB architecture with system-on-chip (SOC) technology to deliver advanced network switching in the smallest possible form factor. Weighing less than 0.55 lbs., this cost-effective line-replaceable unit (LRU) is only 10 cubic inches in size and consumes less than 5.0 Watts of power. Use of this highly rugged unit speeds and simplifies the integration of modern network architectures into unmanned air systems (UAS), ground vehicles, fixed wing/rotary aircraft platforms and other SWaP-C constrained applications that must endure harsh environmental and noisy electrical conditions. The DuraNET 20-12 provides true carrier-grade Layer 2/Layer 3 Ethernet software management features, including support for IEEE-1588v2 Precision Timing Protocol (PTP). Designed to perform optimally in the harshest conditions, this rugged LRU is designed to comply with MIL-STD-704F, MIL-STD-1275D, and MIL-STD-461F environmental standards for deployment in demanding civil and military applications. Packaged in a fully sealed IP67 enclosure, the DuraNET 20-12 had no moving parts, supports extended temperature operation (-40 to +85C) and is resistant to high shock/vibration, humidity, altitude, and dust/water ingress.
