Chevron Unions Win Roster Deal at Gorgon, Call Off Strike

Chevron has averted more trouble on its USD 54 billion ($77 billion) Gorgon LNG project after hundreds of construction workers on Barrow Island cancelled a 24-hour strike at the last minute. The Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, the Construction Forestry, Mining and Energy Union and the Electrical Trades Union called off the action. The unions were pushing for the 26-day on, nine-day off roster to be changed to a more 'family friendly' 20-10 setting. They had planned to go on strike on September 4, 2015 and flagged more downtime in coming weeks, as part of their industrial action. The unions announced a compromise deal with CB&I of 23-10 along with a 5% pay rise.

H5 Settles with Chevron over Ecuadorian Lawsuit

Chevron Corporation has reached a settlement agreement with H5. In the settlement, H5 has withdrawn its support from the litigation against Chevron in Ecuador and has assigned its 1.25% interest in the $9.5 billion Ecuadorian judgment to Chevron. Chevron is also announced that H5 has taken the further action of disclaiming any interest in the Ecuadorian judgment and relinquishing its interest to Chevron. It remains Chevron’s intent to hold accountable those responsible for what a federal judge found to be a fraud. The agreement with Chevron resolves all outstanding issues relating to H5 in the Lago Agrio matter.

Chevron Begins Layoffs in Covington

Chevron has started to eliminate jobs at its Covington office as part of global layoffs sparked by low oil prices. The company has not disclosed how deep the cuts will be. Chevron announced in late July it will eliminate 1,500 jobs worldwide in order to cut costs. The company also will cut an additional 600 contractor positions. The company will cut 500 positions at its San Ramon headquarters this fall. 950 jobs will be cut at its Houston office.
