Connecticut Water Service, Inc., through its subsidiaries, operates as a regulated water company. It operates through three segments: Water Activities, Real Estate Transactions, and Services and Rentals. The Water Activities segment supplies public drinking water. The Real Estate Transactions segment is involved in the sale or donation of its real estate holdings. The Services and Rentals segment provides contracted services to water and wastewater utilities, and other clients. Its services include contract operations of water and wastewater facilities; Linebacker, a service line protection plan for public drinking water customers; and providing bulk deliveries of emergency drinking water to businesses and residences through tanker trucks. This segment also leases and rents residential and commercial properties to third parties. As of December 31, 2014, the company supplied water to 123,071 customers in Connecticut and Maine, the United States. Connecticut Water Service, Inc. was founded in 1956 and is headquartered in Clinton, Connecticut.

Connecticut Water Service Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and year ended December 31, 2014. For the quarter, the company's total revenues of $21.2 million compared with $22.0 million a year ago. Reducing operating expenses in 2014 drove the increase in the Water Activities segment. For the year, the company's total revenues were $101,543,000 against $98,957,000 a year ago. Total utility operating income was $25,997,000 against $22,849,000 a year ago. Net income was $21,319,000 against $18,269,000 a year ago. Net income applicable to common shareholders was $21,281,000 or $1.92 diluted per share against $18,231,000 or $1.66 diluted per share a year ago.
