Costco Wholesale Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, operates membership warehouses. The company offers branded and private-label products in a range of merchandise categories. It provides dry and institutionally packaged foods; snack foods, candy, tobacco, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, and cleaning and institutional supplies; appliances, electronics, health and beauty aids, hardware, garden and patio, and office supplies; meat, bakery, deli, and produce; and apparel, small appliances, and home furnishings. The company also operates gas stations, pharmacies, food courts, optical dispensing centers, photo processing centers, and hearing-aid centers; and engages in the travel business. In addition, it provides gold star (individual) and business membership services. As of October 8, 2014, it operated 664 warehouses, including 469 warehouses in the United States and Puerto Rico, 88 in Canada, 33 in Mexico, 26 in the United Kingdom, 20 in Japan, 11 in Korea, 10 in Taiwan, 6 in Australia, and 1 in Spain. Costco Wholesale Corporation also sells its products through online. The company, formerly known as Costco Companies, Inc., was founded in 1976 and is based in Issaquah, Washington.

Costco Wholesale Corp. is moving forward with plans to enter another Houston suburb. The company will open a location in Pearland in October now that the Pearland City Council has unanimously approved agreements with the company. The agreements include the city refunding a portion of the sales tax revenue Costco collects and the Pearland Economic Development Corp. reimbursing Costco for the infrastructure improvements. The new 150,000-square-foot Pearland store, at the northwest corner of Highway 288 and County Road 59, is expected to create about 150 jobs, and the company is expected to invest at least $30 million in the project, according to Community Impact.

The company announced comparable sales in the five weeks ended April 5 fell 2%, weighed down by a 9% drop in international sales, while U.S. sales were unchanged. Total sales edged lower to $10.4 billion from $10.43 billion a year earlier. For the thirty one weeks to April 5, the company announced comparable sales rose 2%, with a 2% drop in international sales being offset by a 4% gain in U.S. sales. Total net sales in the period rose 5% to $67.58.

Costco Wholesale Corporation announced earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended February 15, 2015. For the quarter, the company announced total revenue of $27,454 million compared to $26,306 million for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $877 million compared to $724 million for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $870 million compared to $728 million for the same period a year ago. Net income including non-controlling interests was $607 million compared to $473 million for the same period a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $598 million compared to $463 million for the same period a year ago. Net income per common share attributable to the company, diluted was $1.35 compared to $1.05 for the same period a year ago. Net income was negatively impacted by a $14 million ($0.03 per diluted share) tax charge relating to an ongoing income tax matter. CapEx was $619 million. For the six months, the company announced total revenue of $54,320 million compared to $51,323 million for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $1,647 million compared to $1,392 million for the same period a year ago. Income before income taxes was $1,649 million compared to $1,387 million for the same period a year ago. Net income including non-controlling interests was $1,112 million compared to $904 million for the same period a year ago. Net income attributable to the company was $1,094 million compared to $888 million for the same period a year ago. Net income per common share attributable to the company, diluted was $2.47 compared to $2.01 for the same period a year ago. CapEx was $1.2 billion. Net income was positively impacted by a $57 million ($0.13 per diluted share) tax benefit in connection with February's special cash dividend to the extent received by the company 401(k) plan participants. The company announced sales results for the four weeks and twenty-six weeks period ended March 1, 2015. For the four-week reporting month of February ended March 1, 2015, the company reported net sales of $8.18 billion, an increase of 4% from $7.90 billion during the similar four-week period last year.
