Capitol Federal Financial, Inc. operates as the holding company for Capitol Federal Savings Bank that provides a range of retail banking products and services in the United States. The company accepts various deposits products comprising savings accounts, money market accounts, interest-bearing and non-interest-bearing checking accounts, and certificates of deposits. It also offers various loan products, such as one-to four-family residential real estate loans; construction-to-permanent loans secured by residential, multi-family dwellings, and commercial real estate properties; consumer loans comprising home equity loans and lines of credit, home improvement loans, auto loans, and loans secured by savings deposits; and multi-family and commercial loans. In addition, the company provides mobile banking, telephone banking, and online banking services, as well as bill payment services; operates a call center; invests in various securities; and serves as a mortgage reinsurance company. As of September 30, 2014, it operated a network of 47 branches, including 37 traditional branches and 10 in-store branches located in Kansas and Missouri. The company was founded in 1893 and is headquartered in Topeka, Kansas.

Capitol Federal Financial, Inc. announced unaudited consolidated earnings results for the second quarter and six months ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, total interest and dividend income was $73,877,000 against $74,900,000 for the period ended December 31, 2014. Net interest income was $46,779,000 against $48,036,000 for the period ended December 31, 2014. Income before income tax expense was $28,922,000 against $29,978,000 for the period ended December 31, 2014. Net income available to common stockholders was $19,207,000 against $20,430,000 for the period ended December 31, 2014. Net earnings per diluted share were $0.14 against $0.15 for the period ended December 31, 2014. Net income decreased, due to primarily a decrease in interest income. For the six months, total interest and dividend income was $148,777,000 against $144,091,000 for the same period of last year. Net interest income was $94,815,000 against $89,972,000 for the same period of last year. Income before income tax expense was $58,900,000 against $55,909,000 for the same period of last year. Net income available to common stockholders was $39,637,000 against $37,407,000 for the same period of last year. Net earnings per diluted share were $0.29 against $0.26 for the same period of last year. Return on average assets was 0.71% against 0.82% a year ago. Return on average equity was 5.36% against 4.73% a year ago. For the quarter ended March 31, 2015, the bank reported net charge-offs of $166,000 against $112,000 a year ago. Management anticipates the effective tax rate for fiscal year 2015 will be approximately 32% to 33%, based on fiscal year 2015 estimates as of March 31, 2015.
