For the second quarter of 2015, the company expects second quarter revenue will increase between 2% and 4% sequentially. So at the midpoint, that would put revenue at approximately $104.8 million. The company expects continued gross margin expansion in second quarter with gross margins increasing between 40 and 80 basis points sequentially. At the midpoint, this would put gross margins at 66.5%. The company expects second quarter non-GAAP operating expenses will increase 3% sequentially to approximately $45 million. Other income is expected to be approximately $200,000. Income taxes in second quarter are expected to be about 2% of non-GAAP income, or approximately $500,000. The company expects tax rate to increase to approximately 4% in each third quarter and fourth quarter of this year and to approximately 10% of non-GAAP income in 2016. And based on those assumptions, second quarter non-GAAP EPS should be between $0.40 and $0.42 per share.

Cavium, Inc. Enables Open Source OpenWRT Linux Distribution for Embedded Devices to Run on the Cavium Octeon III CN70/71XX 1 to 4 Core Processors

Cavium, Inc. announced that it has enabled the open source OpenWRT Linux distribution for embedded devices to run on the Cavium OCTEON III CN70/71XX 1 to 4 core processors. Cavium will demonstrate OpenWRT on the OCTEON III router/gateway reference design at Interop, Las Vegas, 2015 on booth 2027. The OpenWRT software package is performance-optimized for the Cavium CN71XX router/gateway reference board and will be included free of charge in the Router Reference Design Kit (RDK). This will enable ODMs/OEMs to significantly shorten hardware and software design cycles while delivering best-in-class home/SMB wireless routers and security appliance products. Optimized to leverage Cavium OCTEON III acceleration engines, the OpenWRT for OCTEON offers more CPU headroom for customized services, thereby reducing system costs. Compared to software-only solutions, the Cavium hardware acceleration enables line rate performance using far less CPU resource, 3 times better OpenVPN performance and 18 times better OpenSSL performance. The OpenWRT for OCTEON includes the following features: Optimized networking stack leveraging Cavium networking acceleration engine; OpenVPN and OpenSSL packages accelerated by Cavium security acceleration engines; Optional SNORT & Suricata IPS Security packages; Integrated 802.11a/b/g/n & 802.11ac Wi-Fi drivers; Support of 4G LTE USB modems; Easy and flexible configurations through web GUI interface; and Support for Barrier Breaker and Chaos Calmer OpenWRT releases. Several OEMs/ODMs are developing their latest products using the optimized OpenWRT software package, taking full advantage of the OCTEON III hardware accelerations.

Cavium, Inc. Introduces New Turnkey Reference Design to Accelerate the Adoption of Next-Generation Multi-Gigabit 802.11ac Wave 2 Wireless Lan (Wlan) Access Points with Comprehensive Built-In Security

Cavium, Inc. introduced a new turnkey reference design to accelerate the adoption of next-generation multi-gigabit 802.11ac Wave 2 Wireless LAN (WLAN) access points with comprehensive built-in security. This BOM-optimized reference design features OCTEON III CN7130 high-performance low-power quad core processor, Quantenna 802.11ac 4x4 MU-MIMO radio, Aquantia AQrate 2.5/5G PHY, 802.11 a/b/g/n 3 x 3 MIMO radio and Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability. The solution delivers multi-gigabit MU-MIMO wireless throughput along with robust secure transport and unique hardware-accelerated deep packet inspection capabilities for application layer security. The modular design is future-proofed to enable smooth upgrades to the next-generation 10G Wi-Fi. Cavium will demonstrate its reference design at Interop, Las Vegas, 2015. The number of mobile devices simultaneously accessing the corporate network and wireless broadband providers is exploding. Additionally, with the rapid adoption of BYOD and Hotspot 2.0, the security vulnerabilities in existing wireless networks are under increased threats. The ability to authenticate hundreds of users using large key sizes, securely transport data, and provide deep packet inspection (DPI) at multi-gigabit rates is crucial to keep the users and the enterprise safe. These access points also operate in thermally challenging environments with minimal airflow, placing increased requirements for low-power, thermally optimized solutions. Powered by OCTEON III CN7130 processor with quad high-performance 64-bit processing cores as well as hardware-accelerated DPI and IPsec/DTLS security support, the reference design has the performance to handle these security threats at the multi-gigabit data rates required by 802.11ac Wave 2 while remaining in a very low-power envelope. Cavium's new reference design enables 2.5 and 5Gbps data rate support on legacy Cat 5e and Cat6 cabling, significantly lowering the system upgrade cost for deploying 802.11ac Wave 2. This provides matching Ethernet backhaul from the access point.
