BAE Systems Wins $26 Million Maintenance Contract for USS Iwo Jima

The U.S. Navy has awarded BAE Systems a $26.8 million contract for the phased maintenance of the USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship. The scope of work under the firm fixed price contract includes structural and tank repairs and preservation, repairs to ventilation and auxiliary systems, temporary services, habitability upgrades, ship alterations, and other repairs. The contract contains options which, if exercised, could bring its total value to $32.6 million. The phased maintenance availability is scheduled to begin on Aug. 31, 2015 and conclude by July 1, 2016.

South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration Files Lawsuit Against Raytheon and BAE Systems

The South Korean Defense Acquisition Program Administration announced that it has filed a lawsuit against Raytheon and BAE Systems, seeking compensation of $60 million for their failure to implement a KF-16 upgrade deal. The new action, which is filed with the Seoul Central District Court, represents a counter lawsuit against the one filed by BAE in a US court in 2014. BAE filed a case asking to block DAPA's demand that the company has to cover the costs from a cancelled contract for KF-16 upgrades. The latest lawsuit demanded $43.25 million from BAE and $17.99 million from Raytheon. Earlier, BAE signed $1.6 billion contract to upgrade the South Korean Air Force's 134 KF-16s. Under this deal, the company was responsible to upgrade the avionics system, communications display and cockpit interface. Raytheon was contracted to deliver active electronically scanned array radar for the fleet. The project was later cancelled after the US Government and BAE asked DAPA to provide an additional $70 million. BAE then claimed that it does not owe any money in conjunction with this programme since the company failed to force the US Government to withdraw its proposed price increase.

BAE Systems plc Receives $110.4 Million Contract from US Army

BAE Systems plc, has received a contract worth $110.4 million from the US Army to convert 36 M88A1 recovery vehicles to the M88A2 heavy equipment recovery combat utility lift evacuation systems, or HERCULES, configuration. The fleet of ABCT vehicles is getting heavier, making it increasingly important that the recovery fleet is upgraded to support it. The HERCULES, which provides recovery support to soldiers in the field, is the only vehicle able to recover the M1 Abrams tank and the heaviest mine-resistant ambush protected (MRAP) variants in a combat environment. The M88 plays a critical role in the company's efforts to maintain the Combat Vehicle Industrial Base by supporting a team of highly skilled professionals and protecting the affordability of the Army's combat vehicles.
