QLogic Corp. and Broadcom Corporation to Demonstrate End-to-End Interoperability for 25Gb and 100Gb Ethernet

QLogic Corp. announced the demonstration of the 25Gb and 100Gb Ethernet solution. Developed in collaboration with Broadcom Corporation, the platform combines Broadcom's high-performance StrataXGS® Tomahawk™ Switch Series and QLogic'scLOM8514 next-generation Ethernet controller, marking the cross-vendor interoperability of 25Gb and100Gb Ethernet switches and controllers. Supporting 10/25/40/100Gb Ethernet port speeds, the combination of the Broadcom® StrataXGS Tomahawk switch and the QLogic® cLOM8514 controller is able to address all next-generation server and storage to top-of-rack connectivity requirements in the data center. 25Gb and 100Gb Ethernet are complementary interconnect technologies for the next-generation data center. Both specifications leverage a common 25Gbps per-lane signaling scheme, with 25GbE utilizing one lane and 100GbE utilizing four lanes. 100Gb Ethernet is a released IEEE standard today; 25Gb Ethernet is an emerging standard, initiated via the 25 Gigabit Ethernet Consortium and now an approved project within the IEEE (802.3by). 25Gb Ethernet provides 2.5X the performance of 10Gb Ethernet (10GbE) on a single lane of copper making it a cost-effective upgrade to 10GbE infrastructure, while 100Gb Ethernet provides the absolute high performance for the most demanding applications.

Broadcom Corp. Supports a New Open Source Software Stack Developed in Collaboration with Comcast

Broadcom Corp. has announced that its portfolio of DOCSIS 3.0 and DOCSIS 3.1 silicon supports a new open source software stack developed in collaboration with Comcast. The software under development will serve as the foundation for a new version of the reference design kit, or RDK, for broadband devices. The combined technology will enable cable multi-system operators (MSOs) to accelerate services for subscriber's home gateways, including customized parental controls and firewall protection. Support for the new broadband software stack is engineered for compatibility while retaining the advanced features in Broadcom's cable gateway silicon, such as downstream Full-band Capture, upstream diagnostic analysis and extensive hardware acceleration for superior Wi-Fi and tunnel throughput.

Broadcom Unveils Two New SoC Devices

Broadcom Corporation, has unveiled two new Ultra HD system-on-a-chip, or SoC, devices that support Google's VP9 open video compression standard. Supporting client and media gateway set-top box (STB) applications, the BCM7251S and BCM7252S extend Broadcom's Ultra HD portfolio by adding VP9 decode support while introducing support for up to 60 frames per second on the new codec. Broadcom's integration of the Google VP9 standard will allow users to stream 4K YouTube content to their set-top boxes and display to a TV. The codec provides up to 50% bitrate reduction for comparable quality compared to the previous VP8 standard and enables a significant new source of Ultra HD content in this rapidly growing market. Combined with the BCM4366, Broadcom's latest 5G WiFi device, the BCM7252S wirelessly delivers a fluid and life-like Ultra HD viewing experience throughout the home. The BCM4366 device provides 4x4 5G WiFi connectivity via a high-speed PCIe interface and incorporates multiple 802.11ac Wave 2 features to deliver up to a 4X speed boost compared to a traditional access point.
