CEO Reportedly Says Banco Popolare Seeks Tie-Up

Banco Popolare Societa Cooperativa Scarl (BIT:BP) is seeking a partner to merge and has started talks with prospective buyers, said Pier Francesco Saviotti, Chief Executive Officer of Banco Popolare in an interview for Il Sole 24 Ore. Pier Francesco further added that no plan has been finalized yet and they are still in talks. Pier Francesco believes that a merger partner would be found in a reasonable time. Banca Popolare di Milano Scarl (BIT:PMI) is considered the favorite partner and Unione di Banche Italiane Scpa (BIT:UBI) and Veneto Banca s.c.p.a might also be considered.

Banca Popolare di Milano Reports Earnings Results for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2015; Reports Write-Downs on Loans and Other Operations for the First Quarter Ended March 31, 2015

Banca Popolare di Milano reported earnings results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2015. For the quarter, the company's net profit came in at EUR 67.6 million (USD 76.1 million), rising by an annual 5.1% Operating income fell 3.7% on the year to EUR 425.8 million. Interest income totalled EUR 196.1 million, down 4.8%. As at March 31, the company's write-downs on loans and other operations narrowed to EUR 74.3 million from EUR 85.3 million at end-March 2014.

Banca Popolare May Drop Co-operative Status Before Possible Merger

Giuseppe Castagna, Chief Executive Officer of Banca Popolare di Milano Scarl (BIT:PMI) said that Banca will look for a possible merger partner in the coming months. Giuseppe Castagna also said that in case the search is hard, Banca will not wait 18 months to transform into Joint-stock companies.
