bosch ltd (BOS) Key Developments

Bosch Opens Gasoline Systems Plant in India

Bosch has opened its sixth manufacturing plant in India, located in Gangaikondan, Tamil Nadu, to produce gasoline (petrol) systems, states a company press release. The company has invested INR 500 million (USD 8.1 million) in the plant, which has a built-up area of 6,500 square metres. The facility will produce powertrain sensors, fuel-delivery modules, and air-management components for automotive and two-wheeler systems. With this new plant, the company could further expand its market share with a competitive product portfolio. Gasoline engine-powered vehicles witnessed a decline in sales in India following the deregulation of gasoline in June 2010, which resulted in a sharp increase in its price as the global price increased. At the same time, the government continued to regulate the diesel fuel price, which helped to increase sales of diesel engine-powered vehicles. However, the government started to increase the diesel price from January 2013 and fully deregulated in 2014. This policy change has once again boosted sales of gasoline vehicles in India in the past few months. The new plant in India coincides with Bosch's ambitious target to double its Asia-Pacific sales by 2020.

Workers' Strike Ends at Bosch's Indian Plant

The nearly three-month-long workers' strike at Bosch Limited's plant in Bangalore (India) has come to an end after the Indian subsidiary of Robert Bosch concluded a three-year (2013-16) wage settlement with the Mico Employees Association (MEA) union on 8 December. The union accepted the company's final wage and benefit offer, which will result in a 34.4% increase in cost-to-company (CTC) of an average worker from INR 64,000 (USD 1,001) to INR 86,000 per month, based on the industrial engineering standard of 7.5 hours of work in an eight-hour shift.

Bosch Ltd Provides Update on the Strike at Bangalore Plant by Union and Workmen

The company's policy of fair but firm approach prevailed with the Union and the significant aspects of the settlement are as under: Acceptance and ratification by the Union of the final wage offer made by the company in October 14. Introduction of International Industrial Engineering (IE) standards for improving productivity. Settlement objectives fully achieved while also meeting customer requirement.
