Bob Evans Farms Inc. Eliminates 60 Positions to Help Cut Expenses

Bob Evans Farms Inc. announced that it reduced its expenses by $14 million in the fourth quarter ended April 24, a reduction that included eliminating approximately 60 positions. The company also closed 18 restaurants and expects to shutter two more later this year. Bob Evans will have 544 restaurants once the closures are complete. It also is planning multiple sale-leaseback transactions for corporate real estate and its restaurant properties.

Bob Evans Farms, Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the fourth quarter and full year ended April 24, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $332.393 million compared to $326.371 million for the same period a year ago. Operating income was $0.937 million compared to $4.277 million for the same period a year ago. Loss from continuing operations before income taxes was $1.487 million compared to income of $3.122 million for the same period a year ago. Income from continuing operations were $5.610 million or $0.24 per diluted share compared to $9.804 million or $0.40 per diluted share for the same period a year ago. Net income was $5.610 million or $0.24 per diluted share compared to $13.009 million or $0.53 per diluted share for the same period a year ago. Total non-GAAP operating income from continuing operations was $17.747 million compared to $7.523 million for the same period a year ago. The company expects net sales in the range of approximately $1.34 billion to $1.41 billion, depreciation and amortization in the range of approximately $83 million to $88 million, net interest expense in the range of approximately $12.5 million compared to $14.0 million for the same period a year ago and tax rate of approximately 27.5% to 28.5%. The company established fiscal year 2016 non-GAAP diluted EPS guidance range of $1.75 to $1.95.
