The company was formerly known as BHP Limited and changed its name to BHP Billiton Limited in July 2001. BHP Billiton Limited was founded in 1851 and is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. BHP Billiton Limited operates as a subsidiary of BHP Billiton Group.

BHP Billiton Limited reported production results for the quarter and nine months ended March 2015. For the quarter, the company reported total petroleum production of 61.5 MMboe an increase of 1% from the same quarter previous year. Copper production was 460.0 kt an increase of 11% from the same quarter previous year. Iron ore production was 58,979 kt an increase of 20% from the same quarter previous year. Metallurgical coal production was 11,458 kt an increase of 0% from the same quarter previous year. Energy coal production was 19,714 kt an increase of 11% from the same quarter previous year. Alumina production was 1,248 kt. Aluminium production was 245 kt a decrease of 14% from the same quarter previous year. Manganese ore production was 2,049 kt an increase of 14% from the same quarter previous year. Manganese alloys production was 182 kt an increase of 12% from the same quarter previous year. Nickel production was 32.5 kt a decrease of 5% from the same quarter previous year. For the year to date, the company reported total petroleum production of 192.5 MMboe an increase of 6% from the same quarter previous year. Copper production was 1,273.1 kt an increase of 1% from the same quarter previous year. Iron ore production was 172,422 kt an increase of 17% from the same quarter previous year. Metallurgical coal production was 37,765 kt an increase of 14% from the same quarter previous year. Energy coal production was 56,173 kt an increase of 2% from the same quarter previous year. Alumina production was 3,881 kt an increase of 1% from the same quarter previous year. Aluminium production was 762 kt a decrease of 15% from the same quarter previous year. Manganese ore production was 6,602 kt an increase of 9% from the same quarter previous year. Manganese alloys production was 554 kt an increase of 19% from the same quarter previous year. Nickel production was 102.4 kt a decrease of 9% from the same quarter previous year. The company provided production guidance for the full year 2015. For the full year, the company expected petroleum production of 255 MMboe, copper production of 1.8 Mt, Iron ore production of 225 Mt, Metallurgical coal production of 47 Mt, Energy Coal production of 47 Mt.

BHP Billiton Appoints Non-Executive Directors to the Board of Metals and Mining Spinoff South32

BHP Billiton appointed four Non-Executive Directors to the Board of its Metals and Mining Spinoff South32. The new Non-Executive Director appointments include Frank Cooper, Peter Kukielski, Futhi Mtoba and Wayne Osborn. They will join the chairman elect, David Crawford and the three previously announced board members, Graham Kerr (ceo elect and executive director), Keith Rumble (independent non-executive director) and Xolani Mkhwanazi (non-executive director). Frank Cooper has more than 35 years' experience in accounting, specialising in the mining, energy and utilities sectors. He was most recently a partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Cooper has served as a director for Woodside Petroleum Ltd. since February 2013. Peter Kukielski was executive-in-residence at Warburg Pincus and most recently chief executive mining at ArcelorMittal. Ntombifuthi (Futhi) Mtoba was Chairman of the Board at Deloitte Southern Africa. Wayne Osborn is currently a director of Wesfarmers Ltd, Iluka Resources Ltd. and Alinta Holdings Ltd.

BHP Billiton Announces Appointment of Dale Calhoun as Chief People Officer

BHP Billiton Limited & Plc has announced the appointment of Dale Calhoun as chief people officer elect for its proposed demerger of South32. Ms. Calhoun's appointment is effective March 31, 2015. Dale will join the South32 Executive Committee from Tower Human Capital that she has owned and operated for the last seven years. With an established career both as a senior human resources executive and as a consultant, Dale has worked across a number of industries and organizations including Fortescue Metals Group, Iluka Resources, Southcorp, Boral and George Weston Foods.
