BlueFire Renewables, Inc., a development-stage company, focuses on developing, owning, and operating carbohydrate-based transportation fuel plants or bio-refineries in North America. Its bio-refineries would convert organic materials, such as agricultural residues, high-content biomass crops, wood residues, and cellulose from municipal solid wastes into ethanol. The company has a technology license agreement with Arkenol, Inc. to use and sub-license the Arkenol technology that converts cellulose and waste materials into ethanol and other high value chemicals. It also focuses on providing professional services to bio-refineries worldwide. The company was formerly known as BlueFire Ethanol Fuels, Inc. and changed its name to BlueFire Renewables, Inc. in July 2010. BlueFire Renewables, Inc. was founded in 2006 and is based in Irvine, California.

China EXIM's interest in providing substantial financing to BlueFire is unprecedented and significant for the U.S. renewable energy sector and for U.S. renewable energy small businesses. Particularly in the capital-intensive energy industry, small businesses like BlueFire struggle to access capital amidst tightening credit markets in the U.S. since the financial crisis beginning in 2009.

BlueFire Renewables Inc. Signs Master EPC Contract With Subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation for Fulton, MS Cellulosic Ethanol Facility

BlueFire Renewables, Inc. announced that it has finalized and signed a new Master Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for its planned cellulosic ethanol facility in Fulton, MS. The contract is with the China International Water and Electric, subsidiary of China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG). The contract is to provide cost savings by leveraging China Three Gorges' relationships and experience to complete the Fulton project. CTG was responsible for building the largest hydro electric dam in the world that went into operation in 2008 as well as other energy and infrastructure projects globally. The companies will continue to work together to identify other opportunities and to cooperate on a global scale. The Fulton, MS project will allow BlueFire to utilize green and wood wastes available in the region as feedstock for the ethanol plant that is designed to produce approximately 19 million gallons of ethanol per year.
