Bob Evans Farms, Inc. reported unaudited consolidated earnings results for the third quarter and nine months ended January 23, 2015. For the quarter, the company reported net sales of $357,177,000 compared to $340,132,000 a year ago. Operating income was $7,673,000 against $7,954,000 a year ago. Pre-tax income was $5,267,000 against $7,079,000 a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $5,920,000 against $6,535,000 a year ago. Net income was $5,920,000 or $0.25 per basic and diluted share against $6,181,000 or $0.24 per diluted share a year ago. For the third quarter of 2014, on non-GAAP basis, net income was $14.3 million, or $0.60 per diluted share, compared with net income of $8.2 million, or $0.31 per diluted share, in the comparable period last year. Total non-GAAP operating income was $17,735,000 against $10,896,000 a year ago. As for capital allocation, capital expenditures for the quarter were $22 million. For the nine months, the company reported net sales of $1,016,796,000 compared to $1,002,181,000 a year ago. Operating income was $16,749,000 against $28,848,000 a year ago. Pre-tax income was $10,524,000 against $27,989,000 a year ago. Income from continuing operations was $10,943,000 against $21,164,000 a year ago. Net income was $10,943,000 or $0.46 per diluted share against $20,676,000 or $0.76 per diluted share a year ago. Net cash provided by operating activities was $81,210,000 against $105,882,000 for the same period a year ago. Purchase of property, plant and equipment was $58,921,000 against $157,275,000 for the same period a year ago. Total non-GAAP operating income was $35,720,000 against $47,820,000 a year ago. Non-GAAP net income was $25,252,000 against $32,943,000 for the same period a year ago. The company lowered its fiscal year 2015 non-GAAP diluted EPS guidance range from $1.90 to $2.10 to $1.40 to $1.60 per share. For the fiscal year 2015, the company expects net sales approximately $1.34 billion to $1.36 billion, capital expenditures to be approximately $80 to $85 million, depreciation and amortization will be approximately $81 to $85 million, flat relative to the current fiscal year. This includes not only required maintenance capital, but also continued systems upgrades, which include the completion of ERP and a new restaurant POS system, along with the capacity expansion for BEF Foods' refrigerated dinner sides. The net interest expense will be approximately $10.0 to $11 million, tax rate to be 8% to 12% and GAAP earnings per diluted share to be $0.70 to $0.90. The company announced that lowering guidance is necessary as a result of the underperformance of the company’s restaurant business in the third quarter as well as the expectation that the initiatives being implemented, beginning in the fourth quarter, will take some time to be fully reflected in improved operating results. For the fiscal 2016, the company expects capital expenditures to be approximately $80 to $85 million. Impairments including from assets held for sale were $1,746,000 against $1,769,000 a year ago.
