BlackBerry Limited provides wireless communications solutions worldwide. The company offers BlackBerry wireless solutions, which include the sale of BlackBerry handheld devices; and the provision of data communication, and compression and security infrastructure services enabling BlackBerry handheld wireless devices to send and receive wireless messages and data. It also provides BlackBerry 10 smartphones; BlackBerry Enterprise Service (BES) 10 and BES 12, which are enterprise mobility management solutions; QNX software for embedded markets; cloud-based BlackBerry Internet of Things platform; and BBM, an instant mobile to mobile private messaging service. In addition, BlackBerry offers development platform that allows third party commercial and enterprise software developers to build and deploy custom applications to run on BlackBerry smartphones; products and technologies to third party developers, wireless carriers, and enterprise customers to develop, distribute, and manage these applications; and a suite of software development tools. Further, the company provides the BlackBerry Messenger Social Apps Platform; and push, payments, advertising, location, maps, analytics, and Scoreloop services, as well as repair and maintenance services. BlackBerry sells its BlackBerry wireless solutions through wireless communications carriers and third party distribution channels. It serves enterprise customers, principally in regulated industries and select vertical markets, including financial services, government, and healthcare. The company was formerly known as Research In Motion Limited and changed its name to BlackBerry Limited in July 2013. BlackBerry Limited was founded in 1984 and is headquartered in Waterloo, Canada.

BlackBerry Cuts More Jobs

BlackBerry announced more layoffs on July 20, 2015, without specifying how many jobs are being eliminated in this latest round of cuts. In May, the company also laid off workers without saying how many employees were impacted. Those layoffs involved employees in the devices side of the business. After the company's annual meeting of shareholders in June, chief executive officer John Chen said he was at the halfway point in his turnaround plan for the company.

Blackberry Limited Appoints Carl Wiese as President, Global Sales

BlackBerry Limited announced the appointment of Carl Wiese as President, Global Sales. Wiese will be responsible for driving BlackBerry's go-to-market strategy and advancing the company's global sales efforts to drive growth. Wiese joins BlackBerry from Cisco, where he spent more than a decade in senior leadership positions, most recently as Senior Vice President leading the company's global collaboration business, directing sales and go-to- market strategy. Wiese will report to Executive Chairman and CEO John Chen, and will succeed John Sims, who has left the company.

BlackBerry Not To Be Sold Anytime Soon; CEO Refutes Rumors

Microsoft Corporation (NasdaqGS:MSFT) and Lenovo Group Limited (SEHK:992) were speculated to be interested in acquiring stake in BlackBerry Limited (TSX:BB). BlackBerry's Chief Executive Officer, John Chen has refuted all claims to these speculations. According to CBC News, John Chen was asked question indicating whether or not the company was looking for a possible sale. The official put an end to all of those claims.
