BASF SE operates as a chemical company worldwide. The company operates in five segments: Chemicals, Performance Products, Functional Materials & Solutions, Agricultural Solutions, and Oil and Gas. The Chemicals segment offers solvents, plasticizers, monomers, glues, and electronic chemicals, as well as raw materials for detergents, plastics, textile fibers, paints and coatings, plant protection, and medicines. The Performance Products segment provides dispersions and pigments, care chemicals, nutrition and health, paper chemicals, and performance chemicals that are used in the pharmaceuticals, personal care, and cosmetics, as well as hygiene and household products; and other products for enhancing the processes in the paper, oil and gas production, water treatment, and ore production industries. The Oil and Gas segment explores for and produces oil and gas primarily in Europe, Russia, North Africa, and South America. This segment is also involved in the transport, storage, and trade of natural gas in Europe. The company was founded in 1865 and is headquartered in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Germany.

BASF to Build New Emollients and Waxes Plant in China

BASF is building a new plant for emollients and waxes at its production site at Jinshan in Shanghai, China to meet the rising demand in the Asia-Pacific personal care market. The plant, which is expected to go on stream in the first quarter of 2017, will complement the current production of wax esters, emulsifiers and primary surfactants in Jinshan. The major applications of emollients and waxes are for skin care, baby and child care, deodorants, and oral care.

In a release, the company said, "BASF will add new specialty and solutions businesses through its innovation pipeline as well as acquisitions. The company will, however, also continue to look for better owners of businesses that only provide a low strategic fit."
