BASF's ULTRASIM Analysis Tool Helps Eliminate Costly Surprises in Product Development Cycle

Unlike current analysis tools, BASF's ULTRASIM performance prediction technology routinely delivers 90%-95% accuracy when predicting the performance of parts molded using BASF materials. A common misconception regarding fiber reinforced plastics is that the material s performance cannot be predicted like steel or aluminum. Using highly sophisticated material characterization methods and analysis techniques, designers and engineers can account for the influence of the injection molding process of a thermoplastic and study the following: Structural performance for static loads, Structural performance for impact (crash) loads, Vibration and acoustic response, Fatigue and creep performance. This technology allows to reduce part mass, minimize design and development costs, and improve client s confidence in a product before tooling investments are made. BASF recently used ULTRASIM technology in collaboration with Bemis Manufacturing Company, a global plastic products manufacturer, to develop a first-of-its-kind shopping cart design that s redefining the shopping experience for both retailers and customers. The all-plastic design delivers strength and durability two times that of traditional steel models with less frequent wheel repairs and maintenance. The shopping cart is also 100% recyclable reducing landfill waste.

BASF Launches Seltima, a Fungicide Designed to Support Farmers to Produce High Quality Rice

BASF has launched Seltima, a fungicide designed to support farmers to produce high quality rice more efficiently. The special innovation aspect is its encapsulation technology that ensures a controlled release of the active ingredient. This allows a higher and long lasting product performance and better protection of the environment surrounding the plant. Available now in Indonesia, Seltima will be launched in other key rice producing countries in the near future. Seltima was specifically developed to offer rice farmers a highly effective solution to protect their plants from fungal diseases, while preserving the aquatic environment. Its special encapsulation technology ensures a precise release of the blockbuster active ingredient F 500(r) directly on the rice leaf surface, where it acts. Such encapsulation technology considerably improves the toxicological profile of the product compared to conventional formulations and is a result of the BASF know-how Verbund. Seltima is also part of BASF's AgCelence portfolio: aside from disease protection, it also promotes benefits such as higher rice yields and better grain quality. The product helps rice plants to stay healthier with greener leaves, reducing the negative impact of heat stress. After its debut in Indonesia, Seltima is scheduled to be available for the 2015 season in Vietnam, the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.
