BASF SE operates as a chemical company worldwide. The company operates in five segments: Chemicals, Performance Products, Functional Materials & Solutions, Agricultural Solutions, and Oil and Gas. The Chemicals segment offers solvents, plasticizers, monomers, glues, and electronic chemicals, as well as raw materials for detergents, plastics, textile fibers, paints and coatings, plant protection, and medicines. The Performance Products segment provides dispersions and pigments, care chemicals, nutrition and health, paper chemicals, and performance chemicals that are used in the pharmaceuticals, personal care, and cosmetics, as well as hygiene and household products; and other products for enhancing the processes in the paper, oil and gas production, water treatment, and ore production industries. BASF Looking To Sell Low Strategic Fit Businesses

BASF SE (DB:BAS) after the investors day on September 28, 2015 revealed that the company will divest some of its low fit businesses. In a release, the company said, "BASF will add new specialty and solutions businesses through its innovation pipeline as well as acquisitions. The company will, however, also continue to look for better owners of businesses that only provide a low strategic fit."

BASF Mulls Acquisitions

BASF SE (DB:BAS) is seeking acquisitions. Kurt Bock, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF, said, “BASF will add new specialty and solutions businesses through its innovation pipeline as well as acquisitions. The company will, however, also continue to look for better owners of businesses that only provide a low strategic fit.”

Genomatica Extends Licensing Agreement with BASF for Renewable BDO

Genomatica has extended its license agreement with German chemical producer BASF for the production of 1, 4-butanediol based on renewable feedstock (renewable BDO). Under the agreement, BASF will build a world-scale production facility, which will use Genomatica technology to manufacture renewable BDO up to levels of 75,000t per year. The production process will use Genomatica's patented technology GENO BDO, which involves single-step fermentation that can be based on dextrose or sucrose as renewable feedstock. The agreement covers some countries in Southeast Asia, expanding the previous focus on North America. BASF is already producing renewable BDO commercially, which can be tested and used by its customers.
