BASF SE operates as a chemical company worldwide. The company operates in five segments: Chemicals, Performance Products, Functional Materials & Solutions, Agricultural Solutions, and Oil and Gas. The Chemicals segment offers solvents, plasticizers, monomers, glues, and electronic chemicals, as well as raw materials for detergents, plastics, textile fibers, paints and coatings, plant protection, and medicines. The Performance Products segment provides dispersions and pigments, care chemicals, nutrition and health, paper chemicals, and performance chemicals that are used in the pharmaceuticals, personal care, and cosmetics, as well as hygiene and household products; and other products for enhancing the processes in the paper, oil and gas production, water treatment, and ore production industries. The Functional Materials & Solutions segment offers catalysts, battery materials, engineering plastics, polyurethane systems, automotive and industrial coatings, and concrete admixtures, as well as construction systems, such as tile adhesives and decorative paints for the automotive, electrical, chemical, and construction industries, as well as for household, and sports and leisure applications. BASF Proposes Dividend for the Year 2014

BASF proposed raising its dividend per share to EUR 2.80 for the year 2014, up 10 cents from a year ago.

BASF Announces Earnings Results for the Fourth Quarter and Year 2014; Provides Earnings Guidance for the Year 2015

BASF announced earnings results for the fourth quarter and year 2014. For the year, the company’s net profit grew by 7.6% to EUR 5.155 billion in 2014. Underlying or operating profit was up 6.5% at EUR 7.626 billion while sales edged up 0.5% to EUR 74.326 billion. Cash provided by operating activities decreased by EUR 1.1 billion to EUR 7 billion. EBITDA rose by 5.9% year on year to EUR 11.0 billion. EBIT, before special items, rose by 4.0% year on year to EUR 7.36 billion. For the quarter, the company's net profit jumped to EUR 1.4 billion, while earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) rose 11% to EUR 2.9 billion. Profit increase was mainly driven by growing sales of farming pesticides and catalysts. Revenue fell 0.6% to EUR 18 billion. EBIT rose by 7% to EUR 1.7 billion. At EUR 1.4 billion, net income came in 26% higher than in the prior year quarter. Adjusted earnings per share increased to EUR 1.04 compared to EUR 1 a year ago. Operating cash flow reached EUR 2 billion, an increase of 4% versus a year ago. For the year 2015, the company expects a slight increase in sales this year and earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) remaining flat on the year. The company plan to reduce CapEx spending from EUR 5.1 billion to EUR 4 billion in 2015.

BASF Establishes Cathode Active Materials Firm with Toda Kogyo

BASF formally established its cathode active materials (CAM) joint venture firm with Toda Kogyo Corp. The new company, BASF Toda Battery Materials, will provide CAM for lithium-ion batteries in Japan. The joint venture agreement between BASF and Toda Kogyo was first announced in October 2014. BASF Toda Battery Materials has an annual combined production capacity for cathode active materials and their precursors of about 18,000 tonnes. The joint venture firm was established with 66% equity from BASF Japan and 34% from Toda Kogyo. The joint venture will conduct research and development, production, marketing and sales for a broad range of cathode materials which are used in lithium-ion batteries for the automotive, consumer electronics and stationary storage markets. The joint venture firm will operate as part of BASF's global Battery Materials business.
