The company primarily operates in UK Retail and Business Banking; Europe Retail and Business Banking; Africa Retail and Business Banking; Barclaycard; Investment Bank; Corporate Banking; and Wealth and Investment Management segments. It offers current accounts, savings products, Woolwich branded mortgages, unsecured loans, general insurance, and banking and money transmission services to small and medium sized businesses; investment and insurance products; business lending services; bancassurance solutions; and retail, corporate, and credit and debit card services. The company also offers international payments services for consumer and business customers, including credit cards and consumer lending; investment banking services comprising strategic advisory, financing, and risk management services to large corporate, government, and institutional clients; integrated corporate banking solutions, including cash management, lending, and trade financing services to corporates, financial institutions, and multinationals; and a range of wealth and investment management services, such as international and private banking, investment management, fiduciary, and brokerage services. The company was formerly known as Barclays Bank Limited and changed its name to Barclays PLC in January 1985. Barclays PLC was founded in 1896 and is headquartered in London, the United Kingdom.

Barclays Announces Executive Changes

Barclays announced the appointments of Andrew Lloyd and Scott Fordham to its Insurance and Financial Intermediaries team, Corporate Banking, in London. Andrew and Scott will report to Carl Boulton, Managing Director and Head of Insurance and Financial Intermediaries, Corporate Banking. Andrew joins as a Director within the Insurance team and will be responsible for further developing Barclays' proposition across Europe for both life and non-life markets. Prior to joining Barclays he led the insurance team at National Australia Bank in London, with responsibility for UK and Europe, as well as coverage of parts of the Bermudan market. He has significant experience working with large multinational insurance clients across a number of regions, with a focus on the life insurance and global reinsurance markets. Scott joins as a Director within the Financial Intermediaries team and will be responsible for structuring solutions for clients in the broker dealer and securitisation sectors. Scott has held a number of senior positions across the financial services and advisory market, and will bring significant expertise to this new position.

Barclays to Face Expanded 'Dark Pool' Suit

The New York Attorney General (AG) announced to be preparing to file an expanded Dark Pool suit against Barclays Plc. AG Eric Schneiderman announced that he was planning to broaden the scope of a lawsuit already filed against the bank that accused it of using the secretive trading exchanges, 'dark pools,' to bestow unfair advantage to some high-frequency traders at the expense of other clients.
