The company was formerly known as Banco Intercontinental Español, S.A. and changed its name to Bankinter, S.A. in July 1990. Bankinter, S.A. was founded in 1965 and is headquartered in Madrid, Spain.

Bankinter, S.A. Announces Executive Changes

Bankinter, S.A. has appointed Gloria Calvo Diaz as secretary-general of the bank and secretary of the board. Besides her own functions as Secretary-General, Gloria Calvo will also be part of the management committee of the institution, and will be responsible for the Legal and Fiscal department of the bank, Compliance with Standards and Money Laundering. As the new secretary-general of Bankinter and secretary of its board of directors, Gloria Calvo occupies the position that was left vacant after Monica Lopez-Monis departed the bank in February 2015. Gloria Calvo is a Public Prosecutor and has had different responsibilities related to the State Administration almost all her career. Over the last three years as chief public prosecutor at the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, she has covered legal assistance in matters of responsibility of the three State Secretaries into which the Ministry is organised, as well as the Undersecretary's Office and, via this, the Minister and his Cabinet.

European Investment Bank Grants a Loan of EUR 200 Million to Bankinter

The European Investment Bank (EIB) has granted a loan of EUR 200 million to Bankinter for financing projects implemented primarily by innovative SMEs and midcap companies (up to 3,000 employees) in Spain. Bankinter will match the EIB financing with a further EUR 200 million, meaning that a total of EUR 400 million will be made available to small businesses and midcaps. This credit line is intended for the part-financing of small and medium-scale projects carried out by SMEs in the industrial and services sectors, with a large part of the project aimed at supporting small and medium-sized enterprises and innovative projects.

Bankinter, S.A. Reports Earnings Results for the First Quarter of 2015

Bankinter, S.A. reported earnings results for the first quarter of 2015. For the quarter, the company’s net income reached EUR 87.2 million. This is 45% more than in the same quarter last year and 23% more than in the last quarter of 2014. Net interest income growing at 25% on an annual basis shows resilience despite the low-yield environment and the normalization of ALCO portfolio volumes. Net interest income has reached EUR 211.7 million and is up 25% from first quarter of 2014. ROE was 10.3% compared to 7.3% a year ago. profit before tax was EUR 124.6 million compared to EUR 85.7 million a year ago. Profit before impairment was EUR 199.9 million compared to EUR 178.4 million a year ago.
